Help with a purchase decision... today!

I just found a last K10D body at a local camera store on clearance for $375 + tax.

On eBay, I find the cheaper K20D bodies go for around $690 from beach, with a 14% cash back.

The calculated difference for me is $175...

Would it be worth the additional money for me to get th K20D???

I know it's got 14mp so the resolution advantage is quite obvious. I also hear about faster AF and a few minor fixes and advantages.

For someone who has own one or both, can you give me some input as to what benefits and drawbacks are of getting either one?

Thanks,

If the price difference is so small, I would opt for the K20D (you can crop like crazy with 14mp ) and the focus adjustment for up to 6 (?) lenses? They are both great cameras though, I have the K10D and will be looking to upgrade if the price point becomes favourable.

Wouldn't that depend on what $175 means to you personally

I thought the af adjustment was for 20 lenses.

Thanks for the input.

I hear you on cropping. An extra nearly 1k pixels is pretty useful.

$175, that's money I can put towards a flash unit or DA40 ....

K20D has better white balance and better high ISO. The ability to adjust focus on 20 lenses is priceless. K10D has cleaner pictures in low ISO up to ISO 400. So if you own several lenses and some of them can't focus perfectly, and if you shoot a lot at low light, then K20D is the way to go.

WerTicus is right: it depends on painful it is for you to spend an extra $175. I know people for whom that amount of money is decisive and I'm there myself from time to time. If you can't afford the K20D, don't feel bad: the K10D is a great camera and the best thing about the K20D is how much it's like the K10D.

However, I'll say that when I needed another camera, not long after the K20D came out, I decided that for me it was worth paying what was almost full price for a K20D rather than paying a much larger discount for another K10D. I don't regret that decision.

You can't lose either way.

Ouch, K110d was like $236 or something here from what I saw yesterday. Pretty good deals.

I'm really tempted to get the K20d's off of eBay, but that would mean having to wait for cashback, hoping the seller sends me a good one, and waiting for 5-10 days for the order to go through.

When I think about it, the K20D is definitely nicer; but for the hassle and chances I think I will settle on the K10D. This will give me the extra cash for the battery grip or a nice prime lens. =P

As someone stated, I can't go wrong with either one. Just which is a better choice.

Thanks all for your input.

Just after I joined this forum, I bought a K10.
At the time, my choice was either K10 or K200.
K20 was what I really wanted but out of my price range.

Judging by those prices, I'd still buy the K10 and use the extra cash to get a nice limited lens.
If saving the extra cash isn't a big deal, then K20 it is.

If you choice is between a k10D + 43mm ltd and a k20D + kit lens. I recommend taking the k10D + 43mm ltd since the 43mm is a gem and for the k20D you will definitely be able to pick it a year later at a cheaper price and then use the k10D as a second body.

Are you sure they don't have it mislabeled? It was never that expensive even when first announced. Their prices are pretty much set by the corporate headquarters, so if one Wolf or Ritz has it for a given price, they generally all do. You could ask them to check their database to see what the price *should* be.

Although FWIW, I can't really see any reason to buy a K110D at any price today. Well, maybe if it"s under $100. But consider that under $300 will get you either a camera with SR or a camera with a bigger viewfinder, it's hard to find a reaosn to settle for a K110D or *istDL.

BTW, although I'm as sensitive to price as any, I think if price were the only advantage to the cheaper camera (as is almost the case between K10D and K20D), I'd spend the extra $175. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you're likely to spend much more than that over the next couple of years on lenses and so forth anyhow. In five years, I predict you will think it will seem very silly to have worried so much about that $175...
