Waiting for the K-7, if it is what I heard it will be, I may even sell some lens to get it.

For the moment....nothing.

What I need to start doing is motivate myself to get out and start taking photographs again, but work keeps getting in the way.

I am going to consolidate for awhile, get to know my camera and lenses a whole lot better and get the best out of those before launching into anything else. I was thinking about a DA 300 or the 60-250, but I am not using my 70-300 or 135-400 now, so I would just be wasting money.

Cheers
Grant

At the moment.
DA 35 or (and?) FA 35
K20D (or K-7)
Spotmatic ES II
ME Super
SMC Tak 105 (sell my 135, I prefer the 100mm range)
Tamron 17-50/2.8
DA* 50-135
Tamron 70-200/2.8
FA 31

In that order. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) since some of the lower tiers are cheaper... I tend to go for them first

Meh... I don't need all this stuff to make a good photograph, do I?

Back in September 09, I dipped my toes into the Pentax digital line with a used K10D after nearly a 10 year hiatus. At that time, I had in hand the 24, 35, 43, 85, and 100. From September through March (pre price hike), I flipped the K10D for a new K20D, added the DA* 50-135 (new), FA 28 (used), DA 21 (used), DA 70 (used), and an A 50mm F.17 (used). To compensate, I sold my Canon 70-200 F4 and 17-40 F4 to a friend so all in all, I'm not to far in the hole.

The 21/70 were prompted by the price hike and I got lucky with some local and distant sellers. I'm actually quite happy with my kit although I'll consider selling off some gear if the K7 is that alluring and/or I get a real hankering for a 300mm class lens.

I didn't really post this to ask for advice (though those who would want to give their advice would be greatly appreciated), as I said before I wanted to hear how the recent developments has affected your future plans if it has at all?

1) Happy with my 2 main bodies at the moment, so no plans to buy until the proverbial fat lady sings.

2) I'm desperately in need of a 70-200 (3rd week of May is my limit). The Pentax 60-250 is tempting but too new, plus it's nearly double the price of the Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM.

Time to dig in the closet and sell some long-unused stuff. :ugh:

I like to print LARGE and i've sold 4 framed images at the 24" by 36" size, cropped to 12" by 36". Kind of a stretch for my K10D but they came out OK. Might have sold a 20" by 30" image but my sister in law won't let it out of her house :-) Since my brother makes frames for me, practically free, hard to argue with her :-)

Also i've been in discussion with a guy who takes photos of actors for their play productions. He's wanting some additional help.

The K20 prices were just too attractive to me, so ordered one on Monday, due on Friday from Beach Camera for $699, with MS cashback, comes to $600. I think the high ISO will help me in the playhouse shots and i like evening cityscapes as well. Plus the extra pixels may help printing large.

I can't believe that the new K7 will be any less than the $1300 to 1500 range which will be way too pricy for me. Meanwhile, i can be having a lot of use out of a K20 for the next coupla years.

I purchased a DA*35 lens before the price went up, and can't believe its so head and shoulders above my other lenses. Has that surreal 3D effect to it, not sure how to describe it. For the primes, i now have DA 21, DA 35, FA50 f1.4, M135, M200. i have some other lenses as well which i'll probably sell off. The 35, 50 and 135 are my most used lenses.

legacyb4, would you mind elaborating why you picked the DA21Ltd when you already had the FA*24?
Which do you prefer actually?

If you've already got a camera body, don't rush to buy a new one. Instead, I think you should buy the lens, as it's more cost effective for long-term.
Yes, I agree. You can get a body later and maintain your frugality.

Hello Jeff,

I have not gone through the multiple posts of conjecture regarding the K7. What might be so alluring about it, outside of the view finder box that looks like the LX's - 100% coverage would be?

Cheers,

Luc

I have just done my next purchase today.
A used Pentax LX from the forum "On sale" list.
Would I make any "new" Pentax items purchases. Probably not for a long time...
I completed my sets of lenses before the price hike and it would take a very exceptional body to make me open my purse on a new replacement digital body i.e. FF, 100% viewfinder, low noise, high dynamic range...so not the K7 from all speculations available. And Pentax can stuff the video capability where they want, definitely not a selling feature.

So for now it is all about my FA Limited and film bodies. My dollar goes on development not on new gear. I am very satisfied with my K20Ds and the two DA* zooms plus DA70 for the digital side of things.

Cheers,

Luc

My god, a time traveller!
Please tell us everything about the K7 we don't know already.
