Pentax K-7 with DP1 field monitor

I am considering combining the K-7 with a field monitor like the DP1 from SmallHD
SmallHD.com - 8.9" High Definition - the DP1.

This is a 9" 720p monitor weighting ~800g. It should be hot-shoe mountable with the accesories coming out for the DP1. It connects to K-7 via its HDMI port. The monitor is wider than the K-7 by 50mm on each side.

This should allow for much better control of manual focus and composition than using the screen. In the studio.

Does anybody know if the new grip for K-7 (D-BG4) has a power outlet to connect the screen to?

Does the hot shoe supply power supporting a constant 10W (this is as much as the DP1 draws)?

Should I mount using a bracket to tripod socket rather than the hot shoe?

Is there an alternative to the DP1, maybe a smaller 720p screen?

Does anybody have experience with this combo (or any field monitor ...)?

Nobody can answer your questions because the K-7 hasn't been released yet. All we have here is speculation and supposition. And dreams.

Ok, maybe not many have experience with the K-7 yet. Some do, though. And their number will increase in a couple of weeks.

And part of my question was generic.

Any experience with a field monitor connected via HDMI?

I can't tell if this is tongue-in-cheek or not, but in case it's not: no, you won't be powering anything like this from a camera. Separate power supply only.

That's pretty funny.

falconeye wants to hook up a product that has not yet been released to the marketplace to a product that hasn't even been offically announced to the marketplace.

This takes wild speculation to a new level of absurdity, and I congratulate you!

Damn Brit or another mod will presumably be moving this thread to the rumors forum!!

Thanks for the clarification.

Ahh
If it isn't clear so I did a good job on this

Actually, it is both of it.
Of course, it is a bit early to ask
But the DP1 field monitor is a genuine find of mine and I thought I may share the idea to combine the two new products. Could make an awesome combo

PS
I actually would have liked to post a photoshopped image of the combo but then there is this embargo date ...

You want one with a peaking filter

And on GPS does anyone know anything about that?

dopeytree, thanks for the info.

The V-LCD70P-HDMI is another awesome device, it seems.
However, at 7" and 480p only, not exactly higher resolution than the K-7 3" ~480p rear LCD screen. And not as much more lightweight as its 7/9 size would suggest.

I have added a size comparison chart of the three devices:
- SmallHD DP1 (9")
- K-7 (3")
- V-LCD70P-HDMI (7")

Nope. But built-in GPS is always so bad that geotagging would still require an external logger anyway. Ask iPhone users

Seems the 5Dmkii only outputs 480p LV over HDMI ...

If the K-7 does better in this regard, it may be a big bonus and replace the 5Dmkii as video DSLR But I doubt it...

Definitely, I'd love to see one of these myself. If anyone gets one, let us know how it works!

Oh, it works.
But by the time the GPS would have got a fix, the image is taken and the camera in stand-by mode again ...
So, most of my iPhone images lack a useful coordinate.

On the other hand, all of my K20D images have a super-precise coordinate just because my little logger happens to sit happily in the photo bag as well
