I thought the whole point of the second dial was that you don't need to hold a button while rotating a dial in order to set shutter speed? I know the dial behaviors are customizable, perhaps someone who had the camera before you put it in some strange mode where you need the AF button to set shutter speed. I'd do a total reset and you should be in business.

Silly me, you're right. So used to how the K100D works, kinda like it better in that regard. I'm sure I'll get enough time to use this before mine is back from unknown repair issues.

I generally shoot in manual, I haven't tried anything else yet as I haven't had time.
The K20D has the same controls as the K10D I own in M mode. Front e-dial = Tv, Rear e-dial = Av, [OK] + front dial = ISO.
The AF button does AF. Period. Or cancels it if you so wish.

Yes. You can customize what the E-dials do in certain AE
modes.

For example: In AV mode, I have the front dial set to change the apeture.

The rear dial adjusts EV compensation.

This works great for me as it allows me to instantly set the f/stop and compensate if need be.

I am too easily confused to change the aperture from front to rear and back again.

I'm too easily confused to change modes at all. I'll stick with M.
