From what I was told, the closing stores will be closed by the end of the month no matter what inventory is left. All remaining inventory will go to other stores that are still open.

By the way, Pentax is not very good in labeling their accessories in boxes. It would pay to see what is in the boxes in back of the shelves. That's how I found the BG-2 battery grip. It was labeled with a price of $143.95 on clearance... I got it for $43.20..... not bad

Argh. I hate living in Norway. The K10D is $850, the K20D is $1100 and the K110D is $700. It aint cheap living in this country. Also, as I'm currently doing my national service, I'm only getting payed $550 a month, so I doubt I'll be getting any new gear any time soon.

Pentax *ist D for $149. I am loving it, the shutter + mirror slap sounds so different from my K10D. Its going to take a little getting used to. Especially the lack of shake reduction - old school camera holding for me now. The AWB seems to be better than my K10D too. I might pick up a K100D for my dad too.

I scored a DA 10-17mm Fisheye for $299 yesterday! They had a million f-remotes and some BG-2. I didn't check the price on the grips though. I was to excited about the fisheye!

I picked up a K100D Super for $244 on Sunday. Now that I have the handy-dandy list, I'll be making some calls around Houston.
They seem to want 175.00 for a new K100D at my location... think I should go for it? Body number 3?

Great price! You'll get that lovely 6mp CCD (low noise from those big, fat pixels), and it will work with your SDM lenses (assuming it's the K100D Super).

This past Saturday, I missed a K10D for $249 (50% off) by 10 minutes at the Gainesville store in northern VA. Bummer! I had looked at it the previous Saturday when it was 30% off ($499 down to $349), and the sales clerk told me that it should go down to 40% off on Tuedsay (5 May), but I was out of town and could't swing by there until Saturday. They did have one K110 left, but I don't know the price. Guess I will now wait for the K-7 to be released and get the K20 when prices start dropping -- I hope.

Check the clearance areas of some of your non-closing Ritz stores. That's where I found my first K100D Super for $244, and also got a Pentax Optio W30 (water resistant P&S) for $80. The deals are quite as good as the closeout sales, but still very, very nice prices.

Just visited my neighborhood (non-closing) Wolk today, and they did have some items, mostly junk, from one or more of the stores that is closing. Only Pentax related items were a couple of K110D kits for $200-ish.

However, I did see and try out a Quantaray T-mount 600-1000 telephoto lens. One of those things that looks like a small telescope, but this one was kind of shockingly light. I took some test shots outside (without tripod, but supporting the lens with varius supports, and of course using SR). It's not as bad as one might imagine, at least at the 600mm end. But it definitely has some major CA issues - looks kind of like what I see shooting with a decent lens but through cheap close-up lenses. I don't know. I may still just pick up a mirror lens some day.

Personally speaking, don't waste your time with mirror telephoto lenses. I have one with a T-mount and the focus is mediocre at best and you're stuck with an aperature of F8 (this was a 500mm mirror telephoto). JMOH...

I understand the limitations with regard to aperture and focus (and DOF and bokeh) and can live with them if I can get "good enough" IQ for my purposes. I borrowed a Sigma 600/8 for a couple of weeks and found it way beyond "good enough" - it was excellent, really. Just a lot heavier than I wanted it to be. The Tamron 500/8's are supposed to be similar in quality but significantly lighter. I'm still trying to figure out if there are any other good options. For as much as people put down the $100 Korean (?) models that are all over the place these days, I've seen very few sample images. A couple that were terrible beyond belief, and a couple that were actually "OK".

Pop Photo had a decent review of the Adorama mirror lens. I think it goes for ~$180, so you're not gambling too much. Also, it's f/6.3 at 500mm.

I've had a couple and they were okay. I may pick one up again someday. They can be fun to play with. I even saw a Sports Illustrated shot of the golfer Ernie Els that must have been taken with a mirror lens as it had that distinctive bokeh. Hey, if SI is doing it, so will I!
