Picked up a bargain I think!

Since Ritz Camera us closing most if not all of their brick and mortar stores, they are running a big liquidation sale. Cameras are 10-20% off, lenses and other supplies are 30% off. Certain other specials in the store are 50% off or more, like photo paper.... Bought some Ilford Galerie Pro Inkjet Smooth Pearl paper, letter size, 25 sheets... regularly $18.95, on sale for $8.24. I also picked up the Pentax DA 18-250mm F3.5-6.3ED AL[IF] megazoom lens for 30% off its normal price. It was a savings of $150! It normally sells for $499.99 and I picked it up for $349! Before the weekend was out, pretty much all the lenses (except for Quantaray) were sold out.

This is the first shot taken with my new lens...

Cool deal!

Alex

Just go a little south to Portland and avoid the sales tax...

Incidentally, at some Ritz stores, the discount is now 40% for cameras and lenses. The Pentax 18-250mm megazoom is still available in some stores like in the Brea Mall, in Brea, CA for $299. It's still there as of today! Other lenses are there as well like the Pentax 18-55mm kit lens for about $65.

Ritz Bargains

I picked up a Pentax AF 540 FGZ flash at a closing Ritz store yesterday for $200. Quite a bargain -- and the only one in the store, I might add. I might have to check on another closing store to see if they have anything for Pentax onhand.

I picked up a K100D Super for $244 on Sunday. Now that I have the handy-dandy list, I'll be making some calls around Houston.

Jantzen Beach is your closest, followed by Camera World and Ritz in downtown Portland. There is also store at Tanasborne west of Portland, but that is one of the stores that it is closing.

I hit the Wolf Camera on San Felipe in Houston this evening and picked up another K100D Super for $209 (for my sister), a kit lens for $50, a AF200 flash (the new one) for $75 and a Remote F for $9.75. My sister is getting a new kit!

I also bought a Pentax Optio S50 p&s for $55 (retailed for $300 4 years ago). They had several Sony, Fuji, and (maybe) one Lumix p&s cam's there.

Oh yeah, and I did leave a K10D on the shelf for $299. They also had the battery grip for $140. They also seemed willing to negotiate on price a bit.

The stores that aren't closing don't have the same deals (obviously), but I did get my K100D Super from a non-closing store for $244. The other Pentax gear was their normal (inflated) price.

This is when being a Pentax shooter pays off. All the Canon and Nikon shooters jumped in and bought up everything before it got cheap. We Pentaxians can wait a while and get the real bargains!

Hey Rob,

Here's how I tracked the stores down. Print out the list above of the stores closing. There are two groups on the last page that are in the Houston area (including Katy, Missouri City, Sugarland, Stafford, etc). I then went to Yahoo Local and searched for all the Ritz Camera stores in Houston, TX. This gave me a 3 page list. Out of that list, I got the phone numbers of the stores I would consider driving to (Katy and Spring were out - too far). The San Felipe store seemed to have a good bit of gear (well, they did until I got there, but I did leave a K10D there for $299). There's a Westheimer store that's outside the beltway that's closing, but I didn't make it out there. I only went to the one store.

When I called and checked prices on the non-closing stores, I was quoted typical prices, so I'd only go there to check the clearance stock. That's how I found my first K100D Super on Sunday. It was on clearance, and then because it was the floor model, they reduced it further.

Call around to the stores nearest you, and then take a drive with your bank card. Happy hunting!
