How close is pentax DSLR's to density of slides?

Hi all

I have been shooting with slide film and my old Ricoh SLR and was wondering have close the K100D (and the upcoming K10) are to slide film as far as dynamic range, density.
Do they have the same narrow F stop range as slides? (exposure)

thnks so far for all the help you have all been giving me.

Generally digital needs to be treated as carefully as transparency film.

If you shoot RAW, you can do some tricks to get a lot more dynamic range, but it can be more work, too.

I'd say meter cafefully, like you would with slide film.

Shooting RAW the K100D has quite good dynamic range, according to this test only the Fuji S3Pro has better DR..
Not that I believe every test I read, but I like what I see here..

In general, slides are "denser" than digital. However, i am sure that you know different E6 films have their own "characteristics.

velvia 50 for orange and red colour poorly on skin tone; 100 slight better for skin tone

sensia III great for protraits and ambient lighting

provia even better for protraits but more contrasty than sensia

fortia incredible for rich rich colour but Iso around 45 or so. It costs me about 75 AU dollars while i was travelling in japan. Not a friendly price

But DSLRs are so handy nowadays and the image quality is not noticeable until 11'' by 14''
