5D got discontiued 4 months ago, not two years ago

Well when I travel the 5D makes the cut and the K20D stays home.

Anyways, if K-7 is $1700 I'd have zero interest in it. Well unless its full frame, then sign me up. All my pentax lenses are full frame and it would be great to use them as designed with a big viewfinder.

Is this K-7 suppose to replace K20D or K200D ?

Ahh, that's interesting. Interesting in that you compared the "old" 5D to the "new" K-7. How old is the 5DI now...at least 2 years, cause it was out when I went for my first DSLR.

My K10D was about $550 brand new at the very end of 2007. It intro'd at what...$1000 in mid-2006?

You're comparing apples to apple sauce.

It technically replaces neither. It is a new line of cameras, "above" the K20D line (but still APS-C by all accounts).

The 5DI could have been discontinued yesterday for what it matters. Point is: It's an old cam, hence the 5DII. The K-7 would be brand brand brand new (save the sensor and a couple bits), and I have no reason to believe it would/will stay at $1700 or its intro price. Unless it's fully amazing. Possible...

You didn't buy the 5DI at full introduction price...so...

That's also the point of this thread. If it's THAT good and cheap because of the Christmas shopping season, I'll take a hard look at the K-7. Otherwise...trade up to K20 and maybe add a used 40D for fun...or get a used 5DI. Do the approximate math...there's MY K-7 price point for 2009.

Correct...rumors are the K20 replacement will be announced by the end of the year. I'll hold on to that...although I think it's 50/50, personally...

The option is not available

My pick would be "when my k10d dies". I have had the following bodies, the first bought in 1961. The ME was a light camera for a bike trip backpack.
1957 AP, KX, SF-1, ME, MZ-S, K10D. All but the first two are still in the family (my daughter in law has the ME).

As soon as I get enough money for it, which means in a month or two.

If the price is right, then I will purchase in the fall. Only if there's a huge spec/performance upgrade to my K20D. Other wise, I will purchase another K20D as planned during this time.

Rumors, may be, but... from interviews of pentax people over the past half year (John Carlsson (USA), some german manager and some managers from Japan), the new k-7 camera will be replacement of k20d, but not direct replacement, this new camera will be more advanced (class little bit up). And for the Christmas season there will be replaced k200d camera. There will not be direct replacement of k20d.
Links of all interviews You can find on forums here and on dpreview, I have no time to find now.

Let's say that it costs $1,700 at release USD. Of course the specs are all over the place, but let's assume all the stuff we've seen on here are correct. When are you going to buy it?
€800 is my upper threshold for buying an APS-C camera so... let's wait a year and see .

BTW, I think $1700 MSRP would be a bit high, $1500 seems like an upper limit to me but maybe Pentax will place a few curved balls in the spec list that would warrant a higher price tag... we'll see in a few days...

At the risk of being 'me too.'....same goes here...when my K10D dies. I haven't had Pentax SLR's as long as Cdn. Rockies (got my first one in '68) I still have all my Pentaxes over the years...S1a, ES ll, K1000......now K10D, recently KM.

Having and using Pentax slr's this long must be a Canadian thing.

It would be logical...have more "space" between the top model and mid-model. I think they should also separate the mid-model (K200D) more from the entry K2000...but that's me and I don't run Pentax

Kind of lucky to have a K20d at this point: I'll have plenty of time to decide, I think, before the new one might come in reach: I think even if I were the type to upgrade often, (or have the latest thing, for that matter,) I'd be likely to be patient: being quite happy with what I've got here, and all. ....And there's lenses to get hold of, yet.
