So they can buy the D300 for a few bucks less?

Or the D700 Full frame for $700 more...

Once you're at $1700 you're then just $724 off a well respected full frame dslr D700 Nikon. When K20D launched at $1299 I then paid additional $450 for my full frame 5D instead.

I agree after all the teasers if the price is like what Panasonic just did with GH1 at $1500 with lens then curious people will pass, unless its amazing: Like 5-8 fps, iso 25,600, dual card slots, 100% viewfinder, or you fill in the blank w/ your favorite add-on:

Here's GH1 1499. price link:

I have no idea if that will be the actual price, but if it is, Pentax will have to have something very special to justify it. What might it be?

If the camera is a major step up from the K10D, I will strongly consider buying it when DxO Optics Pro supports it. The problem I will have in making this decision is that my K10D IQ is so damn good that it is hard for me to imagine getting much better results with another camera. I know that they can be better, but clearly, we are at the point of diminishing returns in terms of IQ.

Rob
I like my K10D very much. It would have to be very much better and I dunno...some of the K10D pix with the right lighting are really exceptional.

I want to hear all about the new camera, read reviews, try it out, before I even think about it.

Obviously I will never get this camera for $1700.
I'm hoping for a lower MSRP, and of course even lower actual street price.

If its as good as it seems to be then it will be a natural upgrade for my K10D. Especially if it has improved metering - I mainly use m42 lens these days. Love the Super Takumars and also the Mamiya Sekors. In fact, this may be heresy, but I prefer the construction on the Mamiya Sekor m42 lens. If the viewfinder is as good as they say it is then it will help since I like to focus manually. Just my two cents...

yeah I agree, if it is not a huge improvement over the k20, for 1700 that is getting close to nikon d700 prices... If i had that kind of money to spend on a new body and it wasnt an amazing performer I would consider picking up a d700

Yeah, but then you'd still have to get lenses for the D700, unless you already have a closet full of Nikon gear. Nikon lenses are bigger and more expensive than Pentax lenses for comparable quality, especially if you want VR. Pentax has always provided excellent value for a total system, and I don't expect that to change.

As for me !

I'm cleaning up my equipment now, and will get rid of my K10D's (although I'll lose my A@#). I will also get rid of my last two DS's, they were great little cameras but time has passed them by.

I also have some very nice P&S's that need to go to a nice home. (Nikon 950's, and maybe my Sony H5 - I SAID MAYBE MY SONY H5 !) :-)

I will buy in all probability 2 K-7's - sometime around August - end of Sept.

The K-7 just may be the little gem I've been hoping for.

P.S. What will take the place of my small P&S type cameras - yep, in all probability the Panasonic GH1, sounds like a great small machine.

I totally agree, This is why I shoot pentax right now. But if I had a bigger budget and could afford the more expensive lenses, It would be a hard decision.

I may have missed something in the previous posts, but does anyone know, have an inkling what features the K7 may have ?

Last year Pop. Photography was hinting about the possibility of a full framer for a Pentax that would be out this year. Samsung was involved....

I paid $1750 for my Canon 5D brand new a bit less than a year ago, which I considered a no brainer buy~in price. Any crop format camera gets above $1,500 and I'd rather buy something else. Even if it has hd video, $1700 is way too much for a K-7 admission fee.
Ahh, that's interesting. Interesting in that you compared the "old" 5D to the "new" K-7. How old is the 5DI now...at least 2 years, cause it was out when I went for my first DSLR.

My K10D was about $550 brand new at the very end of 2007. It intro'd at what...$1000 in mid-2006?

You're comparing apples to apple sauce.
