K200D or K-7 and hand down my K20D?

I have a K20D and my middle son want's a DSLR. Should I get him a K200D, or get the new K-7 and give him my K20D?

Thoughts?

What would you expect us to tell you?
If you have the funds, I don't think anyone would tell you to go with a K200D ahead of a K-7, but then again, what level is your son at with using SLR cams, and what does he want in a cam?

K200D is very capable, nonetheless - so best to take him to a store and try it out, comparing it to your K20D. Then imagine the K-7 being that much faster, more versatile and have movie capabilities...

maybe you should get the K-7 for yourself and hand down your K20D - great excuse to upgrade!

1 - Get him a K200D
2 - Have another child
3 - Buy the K-7
4 - Give son #1 the K20d
5 - Give newborn K200d

Problem solved!

Buy your son the K200D.
Hand me down the K20D (I'll gladly take it out of your hands).
And go get yourself a brand new K7 and reward yourself for being so nice to both of us!

I'm trying to work out if the K-7 is worth the extra ~$700. There are some very cool features, but I'm not finding a 'must have' driver. I like the bigger LCD, the faster speed, better AF, but I don't see these things allowing me to take picutres I could not with mh K20D. If the K-7 had dramattically lower noise, that would be a bigger driver - there are times when I am low on light and could really do with an ISO boost.

Well, you will have at least 2 months to think more about his as the K7 won't be released till July.
We probably won't be seeing reviews also till then.
After the reviews, then we will know if there is really a big difference between the K20D and the K7 to give you the "push" you are looking for to upgrade.

Sounds like you're leaning more towards keeping your K20D and just picking up a basic dSLR for your son. A K200D or K-m would probably suffice - but that really depends what HE would want and whether YOU would be willing to pay for it!

Wait for the price of the K7 to go down, Pentax is well known to use market stripping as a pricing strategy, heck I think they have Steve jobs working for them sometimes.

The K200D is a great camera, especially because it takes AA batteries, which neither the K20D nor K-7 do. But the K200D is hard to find nowadays. If you find a used one for your son at a good price, go for it. You cannot go wrong, and it will be the most affordable option by far.

Of course, if you want the K-7 for yourself, give him your K20D

I've been surprised by how quickly the price of the K20D has come down. How fast do you think the K-7 prices will fall?

I won't get k-7 unless its low ISO noise is much less than K20D.
