El-2000 problem?

I own a pentax El-2000 digital camera which has recently developed problems as follows: :-
1. it says memory card is full but the card is empty
2, it says only 1 photograph available, then 6, then back to 1 without even taking a picture
3. it will only let me take 1 picture then it says memory card is full

does anyone have any ideas what is wrong please?

Is the El-2000 a Pentrax DSLR? I've never heard of it. I'm guessing it's either a point&shoot, not a a DSLR - in which case you're in the wrong forum - or else you mean the K2000.

Pentax did indeed produce the 1.9 megapixel EI-2000 back in early 2000. The camera is a clone of the Hewlett Packard HP 912. The camera has long been discontinued and is a dinosaur by today's standards.
I doubt you can get any service or parts for this camera... time to get something newer... even a cheap PnS camera will produce better images.

The "wrong" thing is that it is too old and you should get it replaced - repair possibly will be costly and not economical.

Hi S_W,

I would recommend formatting the card which should clean up your CF card issues or
go to your local camera shop and see if they have a small -- 16, 32, 64 or 128 MB CF
card --- and try it in your camera to see if works. Worse case scenario will be that
your EI-2000 has a damaged pin ..... in which case, a new camera may be in the offing

Hope this helps somewhat

Cheers,

Jack

To clarify, the EI2000 is a DSLR design (the viewfinder shows the optical view through the lens) but it has no interchangeble lenses. It's not a small camera by todays standards, but nevertheless a very nice design.

1. Try to check the CF pins and use an air blower on them.
2. Dunno...time for repair, or replacement with, let's say, a used Canon G3?
3. same as #2

I used to have a HP 912. It had features that the DS didn't have like an orientation sensor, ISO 25, flip LCD with live view (while the OVF being true TTL!), and great DR (it doesn't blow nearly as much highlight as the DS, and without making the pic too dark!). Plus, I really love the 1:1.2 aspect ratio of the pictures.

Low points being bad MF and short battery life.

Seriously, this cam was ahead of its times. If I could change lens on it, had a larger sensor, or if its battery performance wasn't this abysmal, I would have skpped the DS.

But it has a hard time competing with newer cameras. Even a Canon G3 or an S3 IS would be a great upgrade. Seriously, go for it if you have the funds.
