You should ask that question to yourself, as only you can answer it. On the other hand, if you're asking me, the answer is a resounding yes. Lack of articulating LCD can be compensated for with an angle view finder (which I have). I'm also inclined to say, in some respects, it's good for it not to be there, since those things are most likely to be damaged (I've had my share of PowerShot woes), and will also likely add to the bulk.

If the focus is faster than the K20D and (more importantly) focuses substantially better in low light, I will buy 2 of them as soon as I can move my K20D's. Low light AF is the key for me....

I tend to think it is a worthwhile question (otherwise I would not be reading the thread.)

You could ask the question in terms of 'how does the K-7 offer value for money compared with other $1300 cameras', or 'is K-7 worth twice the current cost of the K20D'.

I would argue that the K-7 offers good value for money at $1300, but the K20D is a bargain at its current price. A harder question is if the K-7 offers enough of an improvement over the K20D to justify an upgrade. The answer will depend on what is important to you, and how much disposable income you have.

Assuming the IQ is as expected (excelent), then yes the price set for the camera is right where it should be on introduction.

It is competative with the other cameras at the same price point. In some cases the K-7 blows the other cameras away. To me it looks like a good price right now, and after some time I expect the price to even get better.

I can remember the *istD at twice the price being a good thing to buy.

if you consider development of film and price of film at about $0.20 per frame then you only need to shoot about 6000 shots to pay for the K7.

Here are the things that I'm excited for in upgrading from my K10D:

• improved AF (already fast on my DA 40mm Limited, can't wait to see how it is on the K-7)
• brighter viewfinder
• 100% view!
• per-lens AF tuning
• improved matrix metering
• much nicer high-res color-adjustable LCD (maybe actually usable)
• the dr expansion feature
• In-camera hot-pixel mapping (had to send my K10D to pentax)
• higher ISO ranges (and hopefully cleaner ISO 1600)
• AutoWB fine-adjustment even when WB is set
• intervalometer
• much more jpeg customization — handles 95% of what I'd do with a desktop-PC-based RAW converter
• speaking of which: "★★★★" setting for JPEG images
• smaller and lighter
• built-in flash 40% more powerful
• the level. I'm not ashamed to admit I'll turn on the auto-correction.

Wow, that's a long list. And the K10D is already a great camera.

Oh, and occasionally shooting a short video will come in handy. Same with live view, and the faster burst mode.

And more megapixels is okay.

If I had a K100D or similar camera, I would also be glad to add:

• dual-wheel control
• the better white-balance customization options
• the freakin' portrait/landscape orientation sensor. worth $300 right there.

So far from what i gather, the pre-production k-7 being paraded around is using early version of drivers so any picture or software comparisons could be moot.

the points mentioned are mostly software improvements which i hope will be given to the K20D once the official drivers for the K-7 is launched.
