Pentax K10D wins TIPA expert award

TIPA | Technical Image Press Association | Awards 2007

Quite an accolade - Pentax has arrived in Europe. Not always a guarantee of sales success, but a very nice award anyway and useful advertising.....

good news!

I wish that Leica rangefinder was cheaper... it's too cool for school.

But then much as I'd like a Tag Heuer I have to admit that my Casio radio controlled solar powered item is a lot more accurate, doesnt need servicing, and I would not cry so much if I broke it

Had a play with the Leica at Photokina. Oh yes its VERY nice, built like a Sherman tank, but I think the K10D is pretty damn cool too for the price and can outshoot it in almost every way. Ah well, be grateful we have LTD lenses - at least our glass is comparable.

Steve, forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there something badly out of sorts with the camera? I vaguely remember them issuing a recall or some such.

edit: let me be specific, I mean the Leica not the Pentax!

It was something to do with having to purchase an extra IR filter because they messed up something in the body. Can't remember.

Yeah, but the question is... would you get better images with the Leica or the Pentax K10D?

In other words, which is best for you as a tool for capturing images?

Personally, if I needed the LCF, I'd rely on a brace of Griffons rather than a leica overtly hanging from my neck. Reels the women in every time...

The Griffs and I still vote for the K10D... (although the above isn't from a Pentax of any kind).

The short registration distance and the need for angled micro lenses to compensate for this is the reason that the IR filter was left off (or maybe just really, really, weak).
This caused a lot of IR contamination (black synthetic "suits" coming out purple/magenta). So you buy the camera and then have to buy an IR filter for your lens. Goofy if you ask me A few engineering tradeoffs w/ that camera...

yeah I'll skip the Leica. I have my K1000 that looks great on my shelf AND takes great photos...

There's something weird about turning leica design classics into digital cameras... maybe they should remain as film cameras?

I have a Minolta Hi-Matic F rangefinder camera that doesn't allow for any exposure control, yet, especially for $70 on Ebay, it takes fantastic photos. The lens is clean and sharp, the meter works surprisingly well... Who needs a Leica?

Cool camera. The 'classical' look is timeless.

"tipa"

"TIPA" and "EISA" are two of the most prestigious awards one can get in Europe. The panel of judges are from a very wide spectrum of journalists through out Europe..Bravo Pentax for this well deserved award.
