well, when the exchange rate was 0.60 something, Teds put the GX20 for 1099 once, now with the release of the K-7 and the exchange rate is about 0.75, If Teds doesn't have a big discount on the GX20, they will have to keep these cameras for their grand children

I'm thinking if I can talk them down to $900 or so!

Still no comparison to the prices in B&H, Adorama and KEH unfortunately.
I'd have liked to support local business, but very few vendors are selling the K20D, and the prices are just far too much higher than getting it shipped in from the US.

The only thing the GX20 lacks feature wise is compressed Raw as it has DNG only. Software package would be different to.

It's better with the GX20 - the full version of Silkypix.

Yes it does - I have a GX20 and as far as I'm aware it doesn't have -

- burst mode
- remote assistant software for tethered shooting
- .pef, only dng so file sizes on the card are larger (23Mb each), also dcraw doesn't support these dng files (so programs that use dcraw such as Picasa also doesn't support them). As I use Adobe software now it's not a problem.
- there is no v1.03 firmware available for it yet

I got mine for 299 (around $600 australian dollars) for body only in a recent sale at play.com (all gone now though!).

It's a great camera, the features that are missing are neither here nor there for me, and personally I like the feel of it more than my K10D, it feels slightly chunkier and the buttons are much nicer (square rather than round). I also prefer the Samsung menus - but all this is just personal preference.

The software that comes with it is not the full version of Silkypix as it will only open the dng files from the GX20 and not the pef files from my K10D - but, if you only plan to use the GX20 then all the other functionality seems to be there, but like I said, I use Lightroom so I'm not 100% about this.

Years ago, when I bought a *ist DL with two lenses (forget what I paid), I saw the overseas prices and felt absolutely ripped off. You still get an International (cos I check with Kennedys) warranty.
I look at some of the prices here in OZ and chuckle. Trouble is it applies to about everything from overseas, cars, Goldwing motorbikes. etc.. I reckon too many people make heaps of money at every stage until the item in on the shelf on in the showroom.Best to go overseas unfortunately.
I also could not handle having Samsung on a camera. Had a Samsung TV years ago and it was Trouble (with a capital T). Once bitten etc......if I want something just wait for the Aussie $ to gain. seems to go in cycles. Don"t yah just luv Pentax???????

To Aussies who don't want to order from B&H or Adorama, it's a good price. However I just did the math and a K20D from B&H could be landed on my door for $A900 where as the cheapest body price in Oz is $1225.

If the K7 was not what i wanted (which it is) then this is definitely the way i would have gone. A nice new k20d for $900. K20d features always impressed me but the size of it did not.

Jeez.... it would be nice if our prices dropped like they do in the USA.

Yes, I can't decide whether I'd like to buy a K-7 or K20D. I think I will wait to see what the K-7 prices are around Xmas.
