Can't wait to get one!

Just to make sure, the lens correction also applies to RAW right? Both the distortion and CA? That'd be awesome!

No.
JPG only.
I suspect it will be a new function in PPL4.

no rush frank, its 3am here now in Edmonton Alberta so maybe I can see them when I wake up lol. I look forward to seeing more images. The distortion correction is impressive as well.

Here you go, 100% crop of the head and shoulder. Hope it's big enough for you to see the details

Hi Frank,

I'm really looking forward to my K-7. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until I can actually buy it in a shop here... No previews for me... :-(

Anyway, one thing that has me constantly wondering is which is those cool features will be available to RAW photographers?

I'm thinking about:
- HDR (multi exposure is, so HDR too?))
- Lens corrections
- EDR (does it or doesn't it? I always believed it did make a difference in RAW on the K20D)

[EDIT]
One more thing... It would be kinda nice to see a focussing screen from a K10D/K20D next to the one in the K-7. Only if you're confident enough to take them out of course!!
[/EDIT]

Wim
Hi Wim,

Lens correction is available for RAW, but HDR isn't. I don't know if EDR is effective on RAW, but it is there when set to shoot in RAW, so probably it does affect RAW files too.

I don't mind taking a photo of the focusing screen, but have to wait until the kids are all in bed asleep. Will update later

Yup, when the photos are bad, blame the gear. This works all the time

Well, actually they work on RAW too, at least the camera I'm having is the case

You mean the RAW files look different?
On the camera I had only the JPG is affected.
My RAW files look identical (corrected/uncorrected).

Just tested on the distortion correction for RAW output, yes, it is effective. The RAW file is definitely corrected when this option is enabled

Cool, happy to see lens corrections available. I would hate to have to use the Pentax software to exploit the corrections.
Pity about HDR (esp since multi exposure does work in RAW), but I guess doing it in PP on a bracketed series gives more possibilities.
EDR. That was my assumption on the K20D too, but I never saw real proof. I guess the fact that EDR remains possible in RAW confirms that it does make a difference.

I can imagine you would need calm surroundings to do this. Two kids running around generally don't help...

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, sounds nice actually. I wouldn't mind having these kind of corrections for RAW file if they really work. But how did you test that the RAW is definitely corrected in camera? If you checked with the camera playback function, isn't the photo shown the embedded jpg image? Or did you convert with RAWs with the new pentax software? In that case the program might be doing the tricks. Sorry for asking these questions but it's weird to see totally different opinions from two actual camera testers.
