$659 deal terminated... Now $799 and then $100 rebate on K20D

Heres the post I just made elsewhere concerning the $659 deal on K20D you saw this morning:

Ah, the upward price movements have begun on K20D. I looked yesterday and it was $659 no rebate. Now $799 today & then $100 rebate. Once the rebate is dropped its up $150 or 17%. Reminds me of the way K10D went up, up, up back to just under issue price to clear existing inventory. K10D was only available on pentaxstore website sales. So Lenses are up & K20D is up since K-7 announced:

Pentax | K20D SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body) | 19381 | B&H

Might be a good time to write prices down on gear your considering so you can watch your dollar bills devalued right before your eyes? Or jump in and buy before prices head further north.

well, update for all those still shopping...
the cheapest I could find is no longer ebay, well unless there is something Im not seeing, totally possible.
there is some money back with B & H (2%?) and they are sitting at $659 for the body, free shipping.
A website called Photoloon has them for $639 and free shipping, but I don't know much about them as a company.
So, thats the cheapest so far...my search continues.

Niki, seems the best eBay deals are not there right now. Some of the stored had prices as low as $660 shipped -8% Bing Cashback -2% eBay Bucks (659.99-52.80-13.20=593.99). If you show a bit of patience you can probably net the same thing or close.

Prices do seem like they are going up.

Adorama started the week at 639.00. They are back at 659.00 This seems based on the fact that B&H was at 649.00 and moved back up to 699.00. I do recall that Adorama stated that the cameras were in transit, ie: being shipped to Adorama, so the new prices may reflect new stock at these two places.

Beach Camera and Buydig have current low prices at $649.00 and $639.00 respectively. They include the free upgrade to the three year limited mfg. warranty on their home website pages.

Beach has also become the low price leader on Amazon.

I just today purchased from eBay beachcamera because it was at $649.00 and with $51.00 and change in Bing Cashback, the price is $598.00. Less than I paid for my K10D at a low price point (for new) in mid-January of 2008. (There was a rebate in effect at that time, so I think the price was lower overall - to be expected I think).

BTW, I think people are leary of Beach Camera. My K10D was purchased from them. Absolutely no complaints. They are NOT a call you for hard-sell of accessories shop. They offer 7 day return on eBay. I asked them to throw in the three year warranty since I could have gotten it on their site anyway. I am sure they will accommodate.

Will update thread with results of purchase.

I was just about to post here asking if I should wait until the k7 was released before I bought a k20d.

I had a 10% off ebay coupon that expired in a few days plus I had signed up for the bing cashback. The issue was I had a pop up blocker on and I could not see the ebay ads. Once I saw Woofs post I turned off the pop up blocker and saw the ad. I ended up buying from beachcamera on ebay like Woof did.

Here is how it broke down.

$649
-10% coupon

$584.10

Bing 8% cashback on full purchase price.
-$51.92

Total price.
$532.18 for a new k20d.

Its sweet justice since I bought a k100d not long after it launched for over $800 from a local merchant. I had to sell it awhile back and it feels good to be back in the game.

Now I need to pick one lens that will hold me over for awhile.

That was a fantastic deal on a K20D, last month I got an eBay 10% off but it was only good on Software/Games/Music, I let it expire since I couldn't/didn't need any of those things.

Thought about a gently used one, but my luck, Id plop down 400+ nonrefundable bucks for a body that some kid dropped in the toilet while trying to take pics of his
impressive poo.
At least it's water resistant...

I did get some bing cashback, $20 off the $659 at Adorama, so $639 total.
Free shipping, no tax, so thats a plus.
Couldn't find it any cheaper unless I wanted to go with a disreputable company w/ bad reviews
I tried the ebay route, but all the k20d's I found were around $700 and up and no coupon =/
I probably could've found it a touch cheaper if I had bought some ebay coupons, but I figured Id go the easier route.

and I think I might have my k100d sold for $300, so that makes it all worthwhile!

I am not sure you would ever do better. Congrats. I think you got the last one they had at the 649.00 price.

It's not such a bad thing to be one generation off the bleeding edge.

For $1000.00 I have a K20D and a K10D to back it up, not to mention a three year mfg. warranty.

The two will probably be worth $500.00 together when the K-7 is last generation and I'm ready for one of those.

So just saw that Best Buy has K20d body only refurbs for $499... pretty sweet deal considering you get a factory warranty with it. Tempting to get a second at this price.... but I already have a k10 as a backup and a k110d as the backup to the backup Hope it helps someone else though...

PENTAX - Factory-Refurbished 14.6-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black - K20

I have a gift card with $225 on it, a K20 for $275?

OK!

I recieved a $250 gift card from BB for a reward program from my American Express CC, I used it once for my income tax software so I had $228 remaining.

I was going to get the K-7 by the end of the year but seeing the BB deal changed my plans. I will have to wait for the K-7 as I just picked up the K20 for $310, hopefully it will have no issues.

When you see deals like these mentioned here, is it any wonder a lot of stuff in the Marketplace doesn't sell, and you can't comment on the prices as it's against the rules.

Why would you buy used with no warranty when you can buy new within a few dollars either way?

When I was younger I would buy all my video game systems refurbished. I always figured that whatever issue it might have had is fixed and I also operate on the assumption that everything else was given the once over. So by that logic it might be better off than a new on the shelf cam.

Are you reading my mind acrbill?

Your post seems to nail my thinking.... ON THE HEAD! The camera got the magic second look for quality.
