I don't recall this being asked/answered before, but am curious:

Pentax lenses on the K100D and K10D communicate focal length and the cameras set the SR accordingly.

Does this also work with modern 3rd party lenses, e.g. Sigma, Tamron etc?

Not a full guaruntee. They should because the contacts are all there however there might be discrepancies because third party manufacturers might not get the coding right 100% of the time.

I have a Promaster 70-300 (which looks suspiciously like a Tamron) and it communicates the focal length to my K100D.

So, IMO, modern third party lens do communicate that info.

If the lens auto focuses, it passes on all the information required for SR to function.

Thanks! Of course I could have taken the empirical way and dug up my old Tamron AF to see for myself
