It's changed

When I was new to the K10, my first DLSR, it was 85% P when I only wanted to think about composition and 15% M when I wanted to think a lot. Maybe a bit less M.

Now that I've been at it a bit, it's more like 40% P, 40% Av (when I have the time or interest think about the aperture), and 20% M.

It will probably change again by the end of summer ....

when i first started it was almost 100% Av RAW+JPEG

Now it's 99% Manual 1% Av
100% RAW.

I am starting to do some more Av again tho, now that I have an idea of whats going on. I think the sensor gets fooled too much when there is too much range in exposure.

For walking around, Av mostly, unless the condition calls for TAv or M. I never liked Tv.

Av, Manual - 97% RAW, 3% JPG where RAW makes no sense (events that need images just to post on the web or they won't print bigger than 4x6 in).

M most of the time with a close eye on my meter and a liberal use of the green button and spot meter.

I set the menu option for the green button to either favor shutter or aperature priority, depending on what I'm shooting. That makes it effectively an on demand Av or TV mode. I center the spot on the part of the scene I want to be correctly exposed, hit the green button, then dial my preferences from there. Repeat as necessary when the light changes.

I favor manual because once I set it nothing changes unless I tell it to. If I didn't have the green button I would probably shoot Av or Tv though. I love that little proprietary Pentax jewel of a feature!

100% M, I haven't bothered or trusted my K100 enough to use anything else. Considering the K1000 was my first camera I guess that's why.

The fact I had a bad resistor for over a year of use perhaps kept me from trying the other modes. I'm still figuring out the little details but so far it's 100% of my brain minus the exposure/light meter and trial and error.

M 99.99% of the time, Av mode for maybe a few shots a year. Always RAW. And as another poster said, whether you let the camera PP your image for you by shooting JPEG or you do it yourself in a RAW processing program, it's still PP.
