Pentax K 7 or Canon 5D?

Now K 7 has the same price with 5D, which one is better? Should I get a full frame or a new Camera?

5D might have lower noise, but it has too many flaws: dustprone, smaller viewfinder, no video, not Live View, ....

K7 has too many strengths except it has a higher noise.

Which is better?

Your comment that it has higher noise is a litte premature,, given that we have seen zero shots with a production camera and final firmware.

I hope it is cleaner than 5D, or at least D300

Buy both and tell us

I'm really curious to hear about the full frame 5D viewfinder view being smaller than K-7? K-7 is 100% but its still crop format smaller viewfinder to begin with.

I've got a couple 5D. I won't add a K-7 for another 9 months, only when its $700-$800. I have no interest in paying $1,299. I want to know how good it is, once its actually released to public, how it compares to peoples K20D which I own. So buy both, buy lenses for both and tell us what you think as I am in no hurry to see first hand and pay launch price premium for a looky~see.

By the way I've got about 15,000 images taken with 2 5D and I've yet to clean my sensors, once, other than using a rocket blower with mount pointed down. And thats with 2 people carefully & thoughtfully changing lenses out. At night with some wine inhand after every day we shoot I inspect lenses and cameras and wipe clean or blow as needed. Along this incamera sensor cleaning function , I've yet to use it on my D700. I've yet to use this function on K20D... But I keep my gears , rear lens elements clean to begin with. I Wouldn't consider changing a lens in a duststorm an option.

I assume 5D will have better Image Quality. Thats the neat thing about 5D, its a really good consumer grade full frame camera that still competes image quality wise quite well with today's better dslrs still. Look at this handy multibrand comparision for lowlight performance & do remember 5D is going on 4 years old now: August 2005 launch.

5D blows out K20D. My D700 blows out everthing else, according to the handy chart. Why not add a D700 to your shopping list?

Better for what? Depends on what you need it for. I have a 5D and am considering a K-7 to go alongside it, but I'd use them for different situations/tasks.

Foolish question. They're each good for different things. Me? I'd get both. I'm actually on track to, since I have a 5D, and am waiting for my preordered K-7. Seriously, it's like asking "Which is better, a Lexus Sedan or a Ford 150?"; if you need vehicles to do two very different things, you need two very different vehicles.

While I feel it's probably the 5D will have better high ISO image quality, I'm curious as to how they compare at base ISO in ideal conditions. Samsungian, as an owner of both, do you have any input on how the K20D compares to the 5D IQ-wise in ideal conditions? As a much newer sensor with higher resolution, I would think it would be at least comparable, despite the sensor size difference...

The 5D is a rather bare-bone camera but it's an excellent picture taking device.

For everything else (video, LV, jpeg wizardry...) you should look elsewhere.

My bet is that 5D will still have better high ISO and better DR at mid-to high ISO than K-7 but at base ISO, their respective output is really comparable.

The 5D used to have better AF and AE than Pentax's previous cameras but this might end with the K-7: largely unknown at this moment (some early users report improved AF/AE, some don't...) but we'll know in a few months.

The K-7 is a much more refined machine and, if you don't shoot most of the time above ISO 400, you'd be hard pressed to find big differences in the pictures. If, on the other hand, you shoot a lot of portraits/street in low light, I'd still favor the 5D (reason why I probably won't be getting a K-7).

For Pentax loyalist, the answer is a no-brainer.when I see tons of used Pentax lenses on Ebay at bargain basement prices and no matter how old they are, they'll still work on a K-7 (maybe with some limitations like auto focus) Like so many on here, can't wait to see shots at high ISOs and hopefully some 4th of July movies of firework displays..if they camera is out by then.

Ok, so please tell us where the Canon 5D is selling for $1299. The average price for a 5D seems to be in the $2000 range.

Also keep in mind the size difference. As a recovering Canon guy, the current price of a used 5D was very tempting. However, factoring in its size compared to the K-7, the latter is more likely to be taken to places that afford photo opportunities. What good is clean 3200ISO if you won't use it often.

while I can see perhaps a pro having multiple systems and many duplicate lenses, I just can't see an amature having both.

for me, the 5D is a waste of time, because I can't use many of the 19 lenses I have now.

But if you are starting out, the question might be entirely different

Oh I have seen at least a dozen 5Ds on craigslist over the last month for 1100-1200.
