Another option is a used Sigma xxx-400mm lens. There is one on KEH for $364 (KEH Camera: Pentax Auto Focus - Non-Mfg Zoom Lenses - 135-400 F4.5-5.6 SIGMA APO (77) WITH HOOD, CAPS, 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS ZOOM TELEPHOTO LENS).

while not the best lens out there looking on pbase it seemed like an OK performer. Probably equivalent to your 70-300 you have now but an extra 100mm of reach. Again that is just going by some quick samples on pbase... I've never used this lens personally.

The Sigma 135-400mm might be your best bet in terms of both performance and affordability. I may be selling mine in the near future, so if you're serious, PM me and we'll see what we can work out.
