Preview Method Revisited Wow :-)

Being that I'm a older dude, but still pretty cool ... I have always used optical preview for viewing my DOF ........ no more !

The digital preview is the cat meow, you can easy see the DOF and get a good idea of your composition.

I love digi technology --- way cool !!!

Yeah, maybe, but it sure doesn't help with metering my M lenses.

I really dont see the difference between digital preview and taking a picture, then deleting it.

A couple of button presses? Not forgetting to delete it and filling up your card?

Ya know, I thought the in camera digi review would be a pain, but I FIND that it is easier to check DOF and focus.

I never used it till just yesterday and it has real promise for me. I may, as time goes on change my mind, but for now I think it is pretty neat.

I use optical preview in my K20D - I find it much better for judging DOF than the digital method. I suspect the K-7 will be better with digital due to the better LCD.

On my IR converted K100D, the digital preview is needed for exposure; the balance of IR to visible light changes, so the built in meeter acts more as a guide than anything else.

I'm only up to IMGP52xx but my shutter count tells a different story. Love the digital preview

I am sure the Digital View for DOF will come in most hady for Macro work where your available focus area is mm wide and you want to get the bugs eyeball in focus perfectly. The live view is a tool like anythign else and you certianly don't have to use it. We can talk endlessly about features we wouldn't use. K7 takes JPEGS? why I never shoot in jpegs I like the control of Post Processing ect ect.

I am mor ethen likly going to use the view finer over the digi screen 99% of the time but I am certain there will be a time when it'll come in handy to use the digital screen. Its also a good way if a amature photographer is to turn the digiscreen on and adjust the apature and see how it affects dof. Might learn a few things along the way which is always good.

Is there a way do disable histogram in the DOF preview without disabling histogram in after-shot image review? I've plowed through the K100D menu and there's pretty much nothing...

In my K10 menu, the Playback Menu includes separate histogram and highlight warnings for digital preview. These are separate from the review settings using the [Info] button.

It's probably in the same place in your K100's menus

Hmm, to get histogram to show automatically during preview I need to set Preview display > Histogram under the Playback menu. If I select histogram to be previewed, then everytime I use DOF preview there will be a histogram and I don't want that... are we talking about the same thing here?

I know I can check my histogram using the info button during preview mode, but I want the histogram to be displayed during instant preview.

But it does, well sort of.
Snap off a preview, adjust exposure according to histogram and your set.
