There are some GREAT examples in this thread which show a new guy like me how excellent the shots at high ISO are with the Pentax bodies. I just today got around to some numpty shots at 3200...just took this one in a dark corner of a BIG room in the shadows. It is nothing special I know, but to me it gives me the confidence to actually use high ISO on the 20D. The key is I did not do any noise reduction. I only made a few adjustments to the levels...

K20D, FA 77mm Limited, f/1.8, 1/20, ISO3200 {click to view larger sizes}:

I suppose this is what one does with a wicked case of insomnia after a few months...

EDIT: Here is another I took. Again no NR, but there was a crop on this shot. Also, I intentionally made it a bit too contrasty that it should be just to see how I liked it...fun stuff!

K20D, FA 35mm Limited, f/2.8, 1/25, ISO3200 {click to view larger sizes}:

I think noise issues are only a problem when you underexpose...probably the same as any other camera!

ISO6400 Raccoon

K20D+ DA*50-135 ISO 6400 135mm F2.8 1/90 SR Lighting by nearby floodlight on my back porch. I have tons of these, and while not perfect, they beat missing the shot. If the K7 is as good or better, I will be well pleased!

K20D at ISO 2500

Here are 3 versions of the same image, converted from raw using Capture One Version 4. I have no issues with the high performance of the K20D since I prefer keeping detail and microcontrast at the expense of some digital noise.

K20D; DA*50-135 @ f/2.8; 1/60 sec; ISO 2500

C4 conversion; default sharpening; no noise reduction

C4 conversion; Noise Ninja/Focal Blade

C4 conversion; no noise reduction/Focal Blade/Silver Efex Pro

Ture....mostly...but it's not 100% true all the time and in every situation. It also has to do with the sensor and the camera's ability to grab the data from the sensor and process it correctly. It's more technical then that, but proper exposure might not ensure no noise in a shot. I only learned it to that level because beyond that, my brain implodes...hehehehe....
