Pentax K-x, 300 mm, ISO 4000, 1/100 sec, f5.8, --0.3 EV. I shot this hand held through some glass at the zoo. Loving the low light ability of the K-x.

That's a great shot btw.
Though for some reason, it doesn't look real.
If I had to guess, I'd say that its because of the textures but I'm not sure tbh.

There's no telling. I am far from being a pro with the camera and post processing (Gimp). I may have played around with the levels too much or something. It could have been that it it was shot through some glass. I'm still learning and trying to find out what I like and what I don't like. I'm sure others could have come up with better results, but I suppose I'll get there eventually. I know I DON'T like the blurred leaf in the foreground...very distracting to me. However, this was in a crowded, small Herpetarium and I didn't have much time to compose without really slowing down the traffic flow.

Pentaxor, I just came to say I love your user name. Are you a Pentax-made monster? Have you fought Godzilla?

no great art or skill on this one: a fire at midnight as the result of carelessness with fireworks. kx at 3200 with fa43 at 1.9

btw, the color capture is better than that by my neighbor's high level canon (i forget which one - he has two) and a 200mm lens. we were both relieved the fire was not next door.

Photo of my daughter. Taken with the K7 at iso 1600 and pushed one stop for iso 3200 equivalent. Taken with the DA *16-50.

Why not just shoot it at ISO 3200?

Here's a pic I took in the middle of the night with my K-X at 3200 ISO, f3.5 using the 18-55mm kit lens:

Hehe, the light source was that of a incandescent light bulb behind me. The shot itself happened sometime at 1am.

These are a bit old, but they illustrate some high-ISO extremes so I thought they'd fit in this thread.

Camera is the K-x. Both pix were taken with the FA 50 1.4.
The first picture was exposed more or less accurately for the stage, albeit from a distance, just to give you an idea of how dim things were that night:

This second photo from about the same vantage point and time was taken with the FA 50 wide open at f1.4 at 1/30s @ISO 12800, handheld:

The second pic is quite grainy but it still surprises me that I was able to get any decent image at all just from the ambient light of stage lighting, a remote streetlight, and the flouro sticks people were holding.

I have my auto iso set from 100 to 1600 standardly. I think the photo would have been OK with a slightly slower shutter speed anyway, but the camera underexposed because of some windows in the background and so to bring my daughter up, I had to push it. It would have been better to get it "right" in camera, but I often don't notice that photos are underexposed on the LCD.
