But I can say that if anybody is looking for a reason to shoot in raw rather than jpeg, the improvement in denoising over the past several years is one good reason. I love revisiting old photos that I thought were doomed only to be overjoyed by much better results with the new software.

I used to run OS/2 also(back in the day).
I actually quite enjoyed it when IBM had it into development.
Unfortunately... it didn't get much software support and the OS become more of a novelty than an OS.
Other than that, I always liked Linux, but since applications lead the way in many cases, most of us haven't had the luxury of using it as a primary OS.
Today I get to run OSX in vmware and play with some of my favorite RAW converters and tools. But that's about as daring as I get with respect to the linux kernel
I agree with recent RAW developments too!
I'm really glad we persisted over the years with RAW for that very reason.
