Well, not really high ISO by todays standards, but these are ISO 1600 . No PP or noise reduction of any kind. These are straight Jpegs resized only.

Since I do not use shake reduction, the focal length does not appear on ''A'' lenses, but all other EXIF is there.

Jarvier, I have heard you speak, with disappointment, when referring to the K7s high ISO before, but this really gets me wondering. I thought the 2 cameras were about equal in this area? How much more can the K20 do than the K7? I would be surprised if there was much of a difference.

For a person like me that hates PP work, It is very noticeable. I will say that the latest firmware did bring it closer to the K20D though. Atleast it only lags about 1/2 stop behind, but that half stop is big for me.

But in fairness to the K-7 at ISO 400 and below, it is better than the K20D in that the images are cleaner and metering is superb. So for most togs the K-7 would be better, but for the street shooters and sport shooters, not so much.

I have a D700 and a D300s. The D300s is very much on par with the K20D as far as noise goes, but I would not say better. The D700 is a monster at high ISO but do not like to use it to compare because it is full frame. Also I can't really use the D700 for street shooting because it is to heavy to shlep around.

As some of you know I went to this Rally today and it did get crazy. I captured a few good NAZI beat downs and some other stuff. Most of those images I took with the Sigma 10-20 or Sigma 24 so I will share some of those pics in the appropriate threads.

Anyway, the shooting conditions where terrible. Harsh shadows, harsh light. So These where more of an experiment. I set the DR to 200% which from my understanding decreases the highlights by about a stop (perhaps someone can verify this for me) I then set the ISO to 3200 to try and decrease shadow noise and exposed way right. All n all, I was pretty pleased by these results. I only took a few at 3200, but learned enough to try more experiments next time...

So these are all ISO 3200 with In camera PP (all exif is there) and cropping and resizing for composition is in CS3. No other pp done. There is still some shadow noise, but really not to bad.

This pic was while an aquaintance and I were experimenting. At this point in my photographic journey, I do almost no PP, and shoot almost exclusively in JPEG. Knowing that this pic is JPEG and not RAW, how much could it be cleaned up in PP? I will email the original to anyone if they would like to try. I am almost at the point where I will buy some PP software, but I need to research the one that won't overwhelm me

PP can do a lot in cleaning that image. for such a small image size, you wouldn't see much difference unless you crop it a 100% at 12MP resolution. downsizing the images masks the unwanted noises. I'd say 12MP is essential when you want to zoom crop certain images. also, shooting with less resolution like 2mp would essentially avoid some degree of noise artifacts. softening or decreasing the sharpness of the image also decreases such noise occurence.

Tested ISO 1600 today with my K-7 and DA* 300mm. To me it seems really nice - especially after K10D.
