Okay, still wow. I think even the un-specially-processed one would look great printed.

It would do okay, but I think noise artifacts might come through in the shadow areas.
However, the post processed version should hold-up full size in print without any issues.

If you have the time you can watch Youtube videos on how to use Topaz DeNoise. It is very simple to use and gives a good compromise for control and simplicity. Results are very good. Even the K-7 can be used at 4500 with very usable results for good sized prints. LR3.2 also does a decent job if you spend a little time.

thanks JB. I have to say that I'm very impressed with this result. this one is equal to what I get on the K-7 at ISO 3200. so that's more of a 4 stop advantage over it. and I suppose a 3 stop advantage over the K-x. even a 2 stop advantage is already even a big difference. so this is more of an overkill and really does seem to go head to head against pro-grade bodies in terms of ISO performance. Kudos to Pentax. great job done.

do I hear anymore complaints on how expensive the K-5 is?

There was just one in another thread. I answered it very diplomatically

Amidst all the K-5 awesomeness, I almost feel embarrassed to be offering up here these mere 12800 ISO K-x pix from a solo performance by Ed Kuepper in Lismore NSW last night.

No PP or NR other than open in LR3 > export to 800px JPG.

A fellow Pentaxian's wife is the local Symphony Director. She wanted me to get a couple of shots of the conductor for their website. Terrible conditions, no flash and I could only shoot from far stage left or right. So I ended up using my 55-300 and HIGH ISO on my KX. While not perfect by composition or lighting I think I did the best that I could do considering the conditions.
Minor tweaks on the out of the camera jpegs. I can probably get them a bit better using the raws but considering the usage on the website I'm not sure it's really needed.

Conductor ISO 5000.

My share but not very high ISO no PP. Using K-x, 18-55 DAL kit lens @ 18mm, F/8, 1/15sec. handheld, ISO 1600, Center Weighted Ave., +0.7EV, AV mode.

Man I see barely any noise in that, how does it look a bit bigger and what program do you use for noise? Amazing shot btw.
