Noisettes Glastonbury 2009

- K20, first taken with Sigma 70-300 Apo at 170mm, f4.5, 1/180 sec, iso 3200, tripod, onboard difused fill flash, lens was little soft at that aperture and FL,
the second was taken with Tamron 28-75 at 28mm, f2.8 (softest combination), 1/15, iso 3200, handheld. I can give PEFs to everyone who's asking for.
Pentax Photo Laboratory only, the only slider moved was Ev compensation to negative, Normal, no colour correction, no curves, no NR, resized and croped 100% with XNview.

Other observations:
- First one, overexposed like 1/3 stop too much (180 sync wall), sorry for the sunburns; subject has a very smooth skin, greenish walls in the room; I have had K20, my first SLR, by a month only then,
just with some compact and bridge experience.
I like that Pentax preserves skin colour and detail at high iso, some competition (colegue with Nikon D90) looks very often like a skin disease even at iso 1600.
To be fair, that Nikon guy uses his camera only like a P&S, full Auto with factory defaults, straight jpg. I managed to get some iso 1600 NEF's from him and still can't get the skin right, it's still somehow wrong, livid like a corpse.
- Second one, just a snap, please ignore wires (no other angles); the writings on building is old and dusty but I think bas-relief is good enough. Light was mixed, sodium and halogen.
- I'm just a beginner and "a cheap donk of a user who has a camera body and a couple of consumer zoom lenses, and buys third party glass to save a couple of dollars" (Wheatfield, impersonal)
and I don't understand how could some skillfull review people manage to get such horrible noisy high iso pictures from K20...

This was quite a dark area but I'm quite happy, I could quickly crank up the ISO and get a useable image. Out cat finds the wackiest places to sleep!

Really nice natural shot...I like the expression on her face, kinda playful yet as if she is up to something (when is a woman NOT up to something???!! ) at the same time...

I haven't done any high ISO shooting until now. Last night I took the dogs out for a walk late (after sunset) just for the heck of it, I took a few shots just for comparison.
All three were with FA 50 f/1.4 @f/1.4 hand held. No PP
First ISO 400 1/13s ,Second 1600 1/30s, Third 3200 1/60s

So, what are the ISO and lense etc parameters for your photos?

I had just come out of a Sushi place and hadn't reset my ISO to something more sane. This is at ISO2500 - I *think* the EXIF data is intact. I might have had 1/3 stop +EV in camera. This is basically adjusted in LR2, with very little NR applied. This is a K20D with the 35mm f2.8 Macro Limited, one of my favorite lenses already.

Iso 6400, K20D

I love shooting 3200 and 6400 and converting them to B&W. It reminds me of days, long, long gone, of shooting Tri-X and pushing it to 1600+. Great stuff, great shot. I've got a cheap little Epson R220, and I put in the six-gray-shades ink set. The combination of this type of image with that printer produces some really nice (and nostalgic) prints. Although, honestly, by direct comparison, the Tri-X at 1600 looks grainier (and retains less detail) than my K20D @3200 printed full frame on an 8.5x11 sheet of photo paper!
