Help!! K2000 or K200d

I'm stuck between the two. I know the differences, but which one is better 'all around' in your opinion??? I am going on a safari trip in Africa (tanzania) so any suggestions in this regard are welcome.

edit* I will get whatver kit lense it comes with and probably the 50-200mm lense, regardless of which body

IMO, it's not too much the body that matters as much as the lenses you take along with you to Tanzania. Both the K2000 and the K200D are capable and robust cameras, with the K2000 perhaps having the edge over the K200D for AF speed, accuracy and reliability, but the lenses will determine your photo results.

If you can invest just a little more in a 'better' telephoto, like even a DA 55-300 if on a smaller budget, or something like a DA* 60-250 or DA* 300 if you can afford it. You might find the 55-200 lacking in what you want to capture on a safari. I suffered the same fate on my Kenyan trip 2 years ago. Just my opinion, though.

good advice, thanks.

however the price difference tells me the K200d must have an edge over the k2000 besides the weather proof and maybe the top lcd screen... for that kind of money?

ill look into that lense actually

The K2000 is not as good as the K200D but the K200D is discontinued. The K2000 lacks the K200D´s upper LCD, weatherproofing, 11-point AF, indication in the viewfinder of the AF point selected (the camera´s biggest flaw according to dpreview), wired remote socket & some customisation options. What you get in the K2000 that the K200D doesn´t have are faster burst mode & some digital filters. If you´re someone who´s gaining experience the K2000 will limit your photography before the K200D will.

I´d also recommend the 55-300mm lens as a good zoom, 200mm is not much , especially for a safari. I took my 300mm to the zoo & it was still too short at times.

LOL? Absolutely disagree.

To the OP: you wrote you know the differences. I assume you also know what is important to you. If weather sealing and selectable af points are important to you then choose K200D. To me these weren't important, so I chose K-m/K2000 for better AF, improved user interface and lower price (at that time).

My 2 cents:

- Safari means that you might want a dust proof camera ---> K200D
- shooting animals means you might want a fast AF --> K2000/KM

So safari with animals means you want both in 1 camera --> K7
