K10D Mirror Slow to raise

Has anyone had the mirror fail ont he K10D?

Mine is slow to lift,

At 1/2000 only about 5% of the frame is exposed the rest is black,

as shutter speed is reduced more of the frame is exposed until by about 1/640 the entire frame is exposed properly.

Time to visit Pentax Canada.

Nope, tuff luck.
How many actuations has the camera done so far?
Could it be wearing out of the shutter mechanism?

bert

only 12500 actuations, but owned since dec 2006 so definitely out of warranty

shutter is fine, this is definitely something in front of the shutter blocking the light, there is only 1 thing, the mirror.

can't be lens because it does the same with miltiple lenses and all the lenses work on my *istD

Yeah, sounds like a slow curtain.

Have you checked the mirror to see if it has moved out of position slightly Lowell?

I foresee a couple of shiploads of cameras in the marketplace in the near future.

nope

was fooling around with my 85mm F1.4. and shalow DOF, even at ISO 100 you need high shutter speed, and I had notised a couple of shots yesterday that seemed dark in areas, but it was in consistent,. today it is quite consistent

I was thinking the same thing.

I think I will go for K7, I have been split between K20 and K7, for a while, wanting quality Higher ISO than the K10.

probably get the K10 fixed as a back up

These digital cameras actually have a curtain? I always thought it's the sensor directly behind that mirror...

Yes, dSLRs do. Most compacts don't, but then again, they don't have mirrors either.

The order from front to back goes lens, mirror, shutter (front and back curtains) and then sensor.
Here's a good link to see how it works: Jeffrey Friedl’s Blog Blog Archive Nikon D3 Shutter Release in Super Slow Motion
