K2000 DA or DAL lenses confused?

This is my first Digital SLR. I have purchased a K2000 with both the 18-55 and 50-200mm lenses. Should be arriving today. I have a couple of questions. The store on-line that I purchased through states it comes with the SMCP-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ALll (21717) and the SMCP-DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED (21567). Are these lenses better than the DA-L series? The site now shows the DA-L series and not the ones mentioned. I do have a print-out of the page. Should I push for the above lenses or a price reduction or be happy with the DA-L series.

Thanks,

Mitch

DA L lack quick shift and has plastic mount. Optically, they are the same.

They have plastic mounts? Ewwwwww!

I guess I thought Pentax was immune to that. Bummer.

These lenses where specially made for the KM to cut on costs and make them affordable.
"L" is for Lightweight.

I haven't actually have had any experience with the DA-L lenses but the DA 18-55mm AL II and the DA 50-200mm are all standard equipment (kit lens) for the K200D and the K20D.
I think youl'd be better off with these two rather than the DA-L 'coz at least if you wanted to upgrade your camera, you could still keep the lenses..not unless you would want to sell the lenses together with the body (when you upgrade) but it would be harder to sell the body with the lens rather than to sell them separate or for you to keep the lenses.

As far as I know the plastic mounts were a first for Pentax. At least they are the rare exception rather than the rule.

I just got a DA-L lens with my K2000 and I also have the same lens in DA format. To be honest the bigger difference is not having quick shift focus, in my opinion. On a lens of this size and weight I think the plastic is more of a psychological factor.

HOWEVER, I honestly prefer the look of the DA-L since it lacks the green ring which I don't really like on any of the DA lenses. I know it's superficial but the DA-L just looks much better on the K2000 to me.

Good luck with whatever you end up with!

Just got the kit!! It came with the DA-L lenses. Got the kit for $520.00 shipped. Should I return for the D200D or 20D and spend the extra money?? Will these DA-L lenses work on any other Pentax DSLR if I upgrade at a later time?? I am a first time user.

Sure. Even the oldie screw mount lenses are compatible.

Sell the DA L lens as new and buy a used DA II kit lens for the money. Worked well for me. You gain Quickshift and a lens hood with that deal!

Plastic Fantastic , is it the same optical formula as Stainless Steel Mount?

I cannot recall seeing if the plastic mount Pentax L-Series kit lenses are the same optically as 18-55 or 18-55 II or 18-55 WR. I've read this plastic fantastic kit pair sports paper stickers ;^( instead of metal badges. I've read with very little effort they simply peel off.

Someone should start a kit lense picture thread. Its pretty interesting Pentax offers 8 kit lenses in 2 focal length zooms:

Plastic Fantastic "L-Series"

First models without added extra letters, or numerals

Inproved upon "II"

Now "WR" the only weather rated kit lens pair and new for Summer 2009

That all said I do not think Pentax bundled anything other than the budget Kit lenses with their budget Dslr: Km or K2000. So I'll guess, you should get Pentax first two plastic mount lenses they've ever made irregardless to what you ad said. If Not, then you got lucky, real lucky ;^)
