People, do you see what I see? The color changes from one side of the line to the other. The brown shade I mean. What is this?

Thats a shadow, but the line is just not acceptable imo especially since it is showing up in raws at low iso.

OT:

K200D obviously not as it's still at 1.0. I wonder if they managed to exclude significant bugs to begin with or if they just decided early that this model is going to get discontinued and updating it isn't worth the effort...

How hot exactly?
The EXIF is incomplete, doesn't contain the temperature anymore.

I just wanted to know if you saw more than one line in any production cameras yet.
Sorry, I should have answered this first. No, I haven't seen this more than once. And this was with my pre-production unit.

Why do so many people insist on dissing Microsoft? I have never had any problems with Solitaire.

Today it was 33c, not so hot and was not using live view at all.

This may not be a heat issue either if it shows up under low iso, but an actual defect in my sample.

I am just wondering if reducing from 14.3MP resolution to say 10MP will mitigate this stripe issue somewhat? Anyone tried that?

Well it's 23c and no stripe!!

well will try and play with lv now and see but it seems to be gone now, burn in effect?

raider, it showed up in raws so reducing won't help, the jpegs are fine tho.

Well your line is identical to mine, maybe it will run the same magic trick.

hahahaha...me either...Solitaire is beautiful!! I just have gotten tired of spending a few grand every year or so to keep my developer tools up to date. Nearly 20yrs of that and I am so over it...then again I would not use a different OS because, I have gotten way to old to enjoy the change. My only hope is Win7 (running the newest beta they sent out to a lot us who have been with them for a looooong time.) I actually LIKE W7...

oops, that was a big time OT post....d'oh!!

Just a quick note. I have seen this phenomen (faint vertical lines) on my K-7 while recording videos in low light, closer to the left edge of image (I have actually seen 1 stronger vertical line and a couple very faint at what seems to be a regular interval...maybe the 256px that Falk noticed on his pre-prod camera). I'm guessing that the camera has boosted the ISO to 6400. It is particularly noticeable when viewing the video in motion, but not as much when looking at individual video frames, most likely because the light vertical stripe isn't full on a particular frame, but putting several together it completes the line more solidly. This line was VERY noticeable when I was reviewing the video on a large HD TV. Also, I noticed it both in 720p mode and the full video size.

Hopefully Pentax will be able to sort out this issue with firmware...but then again, this may be the reason why ISO 6400 is locked away into a custom option.

More thoughts anyone?

The Canon 50D also had a vertical banding problem (not sure if its similar), Canon acknowledged it and they fixed it with firmware within 3 months of the product release.

Unfortunately, we've found Pentax to be less open in the past about acknowledging and fixing bugs which users feed back. I hope they are paying attention this time.

BTW, I've tried to replicate the conditions, 30deg C in a non-airconditioned room, Live View, but my K-7 seems OK so far. Hopefully it will stay OK

if it was the card don't you think it would show up on all shots not just under certain conditions?

Yet, I have seen stranger things happen.
