Just wondering if Bentax (the original starter of this thread) has now tried this latest firmware and if this solve the problems for him

Calling Bentax.......where are you?

09 must have been released at least by 29th August AEST.
I've "heard" that 09 was released by mid August. But AFAIK tcom was the first customer to actually receive this info. According to Pentax, there aren't really many bodies out there "needing" the fix.

To be absolutely correct, I did not receive the info about the new firmware, I was told to install 1.01. As I said I did it on the very first day it was released to no success in regards of the green line, I was told to give it a try and to reinstall it from start, including the download from their website. This made me wonder if the actual available 1.01 is still the initial 1.01 version...

Just found out about this today and updated my firmware right now... BTW just confirming that Pentax Canada site also has the .09 firmware. http://www.pentax.ca/digital/digital_slr/k-7/firmware_101.php
The GLS on my camera was always VERY random (dont really believe its a heat issue) and not all that often but will keep an eye on it and hopefully theyve got us all sorted now. Now Torphoto will be good to go.

Just forgot to mention above that after careful pixel peeping of before/after shots, it does not appear, in my case at least, that IQ has been negatively affected.

Kudos to Pentax for addressing the issue quickly. Now, they just need to "officialize" the fix..

Sounds very good...

Looks like after 443 posts and 28,960 views, this thread is finally running out of steam...unless somebody finds a green line, after updating to firmware 1.01.00.09, very soon...

Grrrr...have to find another issue to beat up this expensive paperweight.

File Versions are identical

I don't know what you guys are smokin' but the files from the original Pentax 1.01 announcement and the newly touted Canadian version are the same. Here are the checksum values:

c21cffdde129319d65a0c885067ea74d ORIGINAL BIN File
c21cffdde129319d65a0c885067ea74d CANADIAN BIN File
c21cffdde129319d65a0c885067ea74d GERMAN BIN File

So maybe there really isn't a problem (or solution) after all?

Last edited by rormeister; 09-04-2009 at 07:16 AM. Reason: add checksum for German file.

All I know is that replacing my firmware v1.01 with the newer 1.01, I am 100% sure now that my problem is fixed.

Glad to hear that Javier. It would be refreshing if a representative from Pentax would simply quell this thread with some official response. As long as there is a fix, I'm not too concerned. But when I see three identically sized files (which means they are one and the same) from three different sources, it strikes me odd that installing it a second time takes care of the problem.

Oh I agree. I believe the best explanation I have read as to why this is, is because the Japanese are trying to save face. That they are relying on cyber power to spread the word as it has for the most part. It seems to me that they (Pentax) released the camera knowing it had this problem because it was reported by the beta testers. Of course this is my opinion and likely wrong. At this point, I am just glad it is fixed. I am happy with the K-7....
