How important is HD Movie recording to you?

Just curious - How important is HD Movie recording to you? Do you think this is an impressive/necessary feature on the K7?

It is fairly important to me on my next body upgrade. Enough so, that I am not sure the Video mode on the K7 will be good enough to get me to upgrade from the K20. To many compromises. But I do long for a chance at some artsy dof video...

Maybe I will wait now for the K8 ( I hate K9) with AF and a flip screen...

I don't long to rack focus all day long - that will get old very quickly. I have increasingly been in situations where I needed to grab some video while documenting something. Last trip I took both the K20d and DLux4, and the video mode on the DLux4 saved the day. Being able to get very high quality video in a small package (and not having to travel with both still and video camera) can be damn useful.

Video on a DSLR is a nice bonus feature, I will not use it all the time but I would like to have that option. 720p, H.264 format and AF during videos are all of what I would like to have.

Not really a bonus, since consumers certainly have to pay for it: i.e., without video K-7 might have been cheaper from the outset.

It's a nice feature to have but it's not one that is a deal breaker for me. It's fairly low on my list of things to consider when upgrading.

I'll second that.

I'll third that . . . actually, it means nothing to me. If I wanted to video, I would buy a video cam . . .

I recently bought a DSLR and of course considered the video capabilities of some rival brand cameras (Nikon and Canon)... but then I choose the K20 and never thought about video again.

I miss one choice between "Fairly important" and "Does not concern me".

For me it's very nice bonus feature.

+5 here and I would be happy to have the R&D costs put into video put toward AF tracking and some other refinements...and if you hunt to read the thread about a sensor issue on the K7, seems the video may have induced/exposed a design flaw for the K7 which will be sorta kinda a major issue:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/65879-k7-busted-se...on-body-2.html

Still video is interesting...but I had it in my Sony DSC-S70 a decade ago, not HD obviously but at the same time it was far from compelling and I used it maybe 3-4 times as a curiosity than a feature.
