Firmware updates

Hello all
Just a quick enquiry. I am not a real computer expert, far from it. As I read many of the postings I come across mention of Firmware updates. I was not familiar with this at all.
I investigated on Pentax website and found the latest.
Is there anywhere I can look into previous updates? Currently it shows 1.20, 1.10 and 1.11 updates.
However, it mentions "make sure you have updates 1.0 through 1.11.
Where do I find these took check them out. How necessary for the K10d is that I have all updates?
I purchased my camera 09/01/07

Thanks.

Hello;

While pressing the "Menu" button turn on the camera. It will show the current version firmware in your camera on the LCD screen. It will quickly then revert to the standard start up of your camera...

The most recent is version 1.20

Firmware update

Thanks Ben
Mine still shows ver 1.00. Would the 3 updates currently on Pentax websight
(1.20,1.10,1.11) bring it fully up to date?
I greatly Appreciate your assistance as a newby to all this.

Bruce.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you should only install the 1.20 firmware. I don't think you need to do all 3 in order because it erases and rewrites the entire firmware for the camera for each update.

Somebody else should probably confirm this before you update though.

Yes, you can install the most recent firmware without having to install the others beforehand.

Extract from the official notes supplied with the 1.2 update.

Updatable models
K10D digital SLR cameras running Firmware
Ver. 1.00, Ver. 1.10 and Ver. 1.11

How to check version
Turn the power on while pressing the MENU button.
The Firmware version is displayed for about 5 seconds at the center
of the LCD monitor.
Perform the above operation without inserting the SD card containing
Firmware in the camera.
So the v1.00 camera can be directly updated to v1.2

Can't even get the earlier updates. They pull them from the website as a new one is released. The latest release includes all previous modifications and updates.

Bruce, make sure your battery (or batteries) are charged up or very strong. Pentax takes a dim view of performing a firmware update with nearly expired batteries. If the camera fail due to low battery energy levels, while performing a firmware update, the will not cover the "repair" under warranty.

In my experience, it only takes a minute or so to make the update. Just follow the directions to the letter, and you will be fine.
