New K20d Shutter Actuation Count Discrepancy

Hey all,

I'm a convert from canon to the Pentax K20d WOOP WOOP! and just recieved it about a week ago and I've been messing with it daily and I'm loving every bit of it. So far the number of pics I've downloaded into my system is 516 however when I loaded the last pic into PHOTO-ME (an exif viewer) I noticed the shutter actuation count to be at 770. Anybody have any idea how this could be possible or am I missing something?

BTW, the k20d was advertised as brand new and from the beginning there was no indication to me when opening the box that it wasn't, I had to set the time date and language when I first turned it on...

Has anyone else had this happen or could possibly tell me if this thing could have been used before?

Any help on this matter would be GREATLY appreciated b/c if it is used, i don't think it's fair I payed for a new one and I'll deal with it and the company accordingly.

Thank you all,

Proud Pentaxian Owner

All my cameras had a few hundred pictures on the counter when I got them. I think Pentax gives them all a workout before shipping to make sure they're on spec.

Both my K200 and K110 had around 200 cycles when new out of the box.

Most definitely has to be factory testing.

G'day and welcome harley,
You can be pleased that you have a perfectly working K20D, and you'll have around 99,300 or so more actuations to enjoy on this new camera of yours!

Shutter Actuations

I have been offered a Pentax K20D for $640 with the lens kit, with 12965 shoots/shutter activations. Do you think this is a good deal?

What would you say would be a desirable shutter activation number for a second habd camera?

Thanks

Matt, there is no 'desirable' shutter count - less is more obviously, but that's up to you to decide if you're happy with it. By the time the camera fails in its shutter mechanism, it will be many years old and worth little, so you'd be getting your money's worth regardless if the shutter count were 100 or 10,000.

K20Ds can be bought for under $600 on their own with a much less shutter count, but with kit lens, your $640 offer it isn't the world's worst deal.
