Has anyone tired to get faster FPS in AFC by turning SR off? Manual mode? Just leaving all the CPU to the AF.

Thank you
Russell

It's funny to read some comments. Pentax AF system is far behind Nikon with moving objects and reportage.
K-7 has good level AF and it's real evolution of SAFOX, but it's still SAFOX VIII.

Dear Pentaxians, it (maybe) sounds unbelievable for your ears, but it's FACT:

Nikon D3, D3X, D300, D700 can really offer 100% results with AF-C with moving object without fall of speed.
Remark - not in 100% cases of shooting. Sometimes you can get only 30 or 50% sharp shots.
BUT. This camera really has AF-C speed as you can read it in specification and you really can get 100% sharp photos in this condition or another.

K-7's AF-C speed with moving object is not the best among semi-pro APS-C DSLR.
As for K10D or K20D, this cameras are 50% worse than K-7 in AF-C.
Everybody knows Pentax's AF is not quite up to the competition, nobody is denying that. But you seem to misunderstand the limitations of AF.C, If the D3, D300 or whatever camera can get it's full FPS in AF.C it's just ignoring focus in some of the shots, or using predictive focusing, which Pentax doesn't have.

So, what did you want to say after all? If you need faster AF, you should move to the system with faster AF, whatever brand it is, it's simple. There is no "marketing trick" in the K7 specs.

Yes I did. Manual metering in low-light does help, in good light it makes not much difference. As soon as you switch to AF-C the frame rate drops to around 3fps. Even if the subject doesn't move at all. It is as if the continous AF calculation is too slow to allow more than 3fps.

At least you'll be able to rapid fire shoot static subjects.

Not exactly. Some sequences are of thing or people that stay in the plane of focus so it's not completely useless to use Hi-Burst in AF-S.

Ummmm...I just looked at the Adorama rental catalog and, ummmm, errr...there is no Pentax gear listed. Sorry for pointing that out and I dinna wanna be a fly-in-the-ointment on that option, but as I looked to see about renting from Adorama there just is no Pentax gear. It's not an awful situation as there is another rental option for Pentax gear. But from Adorama if one is interested in Pentax, renting is not an option to be found on the website. d'oh??!!

I hadn't realized that we no longer rent Pentax; I just found out that we sold our Film Cameras to the used department, and I'm told that "there is not a digital camera compatible with Rentals.........and our clients have not shown any interest."
