AF-C of K-7 is marketing trick

I'm a bit confused with AF-C speed of K-7.
It really works good, better than K20D, but it's hard to exceed 3 fps (even without CA and distortion correction).
For example, D300 can make 6 fps till buffer filled, with 100% result in focus (not always, of course, but it could be REAL), K-7 can't make 4-5 fps.
The average speed (depends on lens) approx. 2.5-3 fps. It's true.
The specification of K-7 is marketing trick.
5.2 fps is only in AF-S.

I would say that if high burst is one of your requirements you shouldn't be with Pentax in the first place... It is indeed disappointing and I guess Pentax still have some ways to go with the fps and AF department.

Does it say anywhere that 5.2 fps is for AF-C as well?

No. But, they didn't say that 5.2 fps is just for AF-S.
To say honest, I don't need 5.2 fps in AF-S. I'd like on the contrary:
AF-S - 3.3 fps, AF-C - 5.2 fps. Or like another brands can.

Which other brands?

I cant get a D300 to go much over 4fps when having to track something, which is down to the lens and AF speed.

I think it's all down to some option like "focus priority: on/off". When focus priority is on, the camera won't fire if the shot is not confimed in focus: you get more keepers but the frame rate can go down. When off, you should get the rated 6fps but some oof shots will appear.

Does the K-7 have such an option or is it in "focus priority" by design?

It's not truth. D300 really can 6 fps.
Canon 50D is in the same league too.

K-7 is the best among Pentax in AF-C, but it's lower level than Nikon/Canon/Olympus.
D300 AF system is close to perfect.

Sure it is not just a "marketing trick"?

Or is it a trick of the light?

Or tripping the light fantastic?

Or the fantastic four?

Fore!

Which brings us back to golf where a lower score is better. Pentax is a hole in one!

I've run an AF.C reference test
Falk Lumo: K-7 and its continuous autofocus -- PART I
The test setup was standardized by a German photo magazine and results for various brands and models are known.
As you can read, the K-7 delivers 14 images within 3.6s (13 which of were good, run #3). This not only is 3.9 fps in AF.C, it is an exact match of the D300 performance too (13 good images for the same test).

Additionally, your thread title is misleading because Pentax never claimed 5.2fps would be independent from subject speed or autofocus mode. Nor did any other vendor out there.

I cannot see where you are getting your negative mood from.

I did notice a speed difference when I tested the camera in a shop, using AF or MF, aiming at the same object it was clear from the sound that the fps was different even tho the camera was not pointing at something that was moving.

altho as has been said, it was only stated what fps it can do, not that it can do it with af.
