No, and there's not a chance in this world it'd work. The two cameras have different AF systems, different AF point display capabilities, different operating frame rates, and different battery types, among a variety of other hardware changes.

I am a quite satisfied user of a Pentax K-r.
A feature I really miss and need on this camera is the Tav mode, which I had on my previous k10d.
Would it be possible to hack the k-r firmware in order to add to the "M" mode the possibility to use the Auto Iso, selecting the iso range like in Av and Tv modes?

I wonder how this project is now. As I have no knowledge of programming, is it quite like the Canon Hacking Development Kit (CHDK)?

This would be great if the program could also be used for current Pentax P&S. Make those cameras "smarter" for use!

Hello, I wanted to revive the forum with the intention to progress more in the Hack of the pentax.

All this came the need of a friend downgrade a firmware 1.13 to 1.12 In a Pentax K-5 by problems in focus with tungsten light.

I did some research with a Pentax K-7 and its firmware and discovered several things.
But the most important and which I think is the cause of the hack of the pentax has not been made possible, I have managed to introduce several ways firmware modified.
I'm pretty sure that works in K5, Kx and Kr as well, but I dare say that in older models K30 and also the future work.

I want people who have contributed much in this thread, as TR13, Das Boot, zezo, etc ... to renew their illusions. Publish their progress.

The first thing you would need is a good disassembly of any of these models (very similar).
I have Ida Pro 5.5, but my knowledge of assembler are rather poor and I can not get to disassemble the code well.

If I can today, will try to test this in a K-5.

I applaud your efforts, think you're brave to take it on, but honestly? I would never go there with something as expensive as a DSLR. It's one thing to hack and risk bricking a $30 media player but entirely another to risk a pricey camera. The Pentax firmware isn't perfect but it's not that bad I don't think. I like Rockbox on the media player though. I must admit it's made using my Clip+ a lot better.

KB474.bin for DSP only (no encripted). KB474C.bin for CPU only (no encripted). KB474B.bin for both, DSP and CPU (no encripted).

Howto: put any file in SD card c:\ . with card tape open, the machine On or off it is equal. Insert the SD.Then remove the SDcard for updating. Note: can not use the extracted files with the command StoreCpu, StoreDSP of debug menu, because these files contain parts as kb474.adj, kb474cam.log, kb474cpu.adj ... and breaks the firmware check (it is possible to bypass). You can only use the original firmwares files are not modified.

FWDC204D.bin for DSP only (encripted). FWDC204C.bin for CPU only (encripted). FWDC204B.bin for both, DSP and CPU (encripted).

Modifying the header, especially text, is easy enough using a program that allows you to change the hexadecimal values and re-save them. However editing or changing functions is a whole different ballgame, especially without some knowledge of what specifically the code is doing. Obviously, somewhere in the world is someone who wrote it and understands it completely. Now if Pentax would only let them post it!!

Hi all,
I am trying to muster info about hacks for K5. (I am getting one in couple of days, despite I wanted K5IIs).
I love it as still camera, not using lot of AF. What bothers me is the video capability.
I would like to have manual control over video setting and possibly break time limitation.
Is there any progress or chance? Info over web is quite spare.
