K-7 with 18-55 lens kit?

i am planning on purchasing a k-7 in the next couple of months and i was just wondering if anyone knew why the k-7 is not sold with the 18-55mm WR kit lens.

all current cameras, k2000, k200d, and k20d are sold as either body only as well as with a kit lens but the k-7 is not. did they do the same with the k10/k20d when those came out? if so, how long did it take for the kits with lenses to become available?

i ask because i finally got some prime lenses that i am very happy with and i have a feeling that i won't use the kit zoom lens much so i don't want to spend $200 on it but i would consider spending an extra $100 on a kit to have it in my bag in case i want it.

edit: i am talking about the US kits available via the official pentax web store. i am assuming that resellers such as amazon follow pentax' guidelines... but feel free to correct me if i am wrong...

Well, in I Europe K-7 is sold as a kit with DA 18-55 WR or with both DA 18-55 WR + DA 50-200 WR. I would think this is the case in US too, at least in some shops? With 18-55 the kit is just 50 euros more expensive, than just the body.

I had no choice - had to get the 18-55 Wr with it or wait until a body only option came out, which it hasn't yet.

I bought my K-7 in Europe, and the clerk told me that the body only would cost just as much as the kit

Looks like they want to get people started with Pentax!

Only entry level DSLRs should be sold with kit lenses IMHO. But I think the reason the kit lenses were not available with K-7 is because they wanted the new WR kit lenses and they were not in production at the same time as the K-7 bodies.

Maybe there is a shortage of lenses at the moment.

We sell four variants of the K7. The body only, the body and 18-55WR, the body and the two WR lenses, and the body and the SMC* 16-50. $1599, $1699, $1999 and $2599, respectively.

Canadian prices seem inordinately high compared to the actual value of the dollar, but that's nothing unusual.

my guess is that marketing decided that most US buyers will be established pentax owners who already have lenses so they will be interested in body only while europe buyers will be new to the pentax system and thus will want lenses with their new cameras.

this is pure speculation but the only reasonable explanation i can think of since WR lenses are in stock and available separately so a lens shortage does not seem too plausible.
as for beginner dslr's only being sold as kits i believe canon 5dm2 can be purchased with an L zoom lens as a kit and there's nothing beginner about that combo...

i'll just wait a couple of months and see if kits start turning up here in the states
