There isn't much reason to use the brand if you are using third party glass. The competitors bodies do seem to be better.
But it not my place to judge, I suppose. We get to waste our money as we see fit.

FWIW, I have over 2000 exposures on my K7 with no imaging issues at all. No green lines, no purple splots, no problems at all. I read the bitching and whining threads and wonder what the hell you people are on about. If your camera doesn't work, get it exchanged for one that does work.
This isn't rocket science.

I agree Wheatfield... all my glass is Pentax. It was Pentax glass that attracted me to digital.. was a Nikon film user before.

My view though camera wise has changed rapidly in favour of Pentax over other brands since getting the K-7.

Hi Wheatfield.

What is your favorate Pentax lens?

I'm not Wheatfield but I'll say the FA* 200/4 Macro keep on astounding me. I'm sure images shot with this lens on the K-7 can be printed at sizes of 2 metres at the long end

Agree. Not buying Pentax lenses is false economy. The good Pentax glass is something you can use forever and they also keep their value. Old third party glass is cheap; some Pentax lenses increase in price on the use market to far more than they costed when new....

Hi Wheatfield.

What is your favorite Pentax lens?
Of the 50 or so I have, it's generally the one that's on the camera right now.
I don't really have a favorite, per se. I like compact lenses, so I'm pretty smitten with the DA Limiteds, and if I am just out and about with a small kit, I'll have the 21, 31 (I must get my 40 back), and 70 (and now the 15 as well) in my vest. I'm really pleased with the 55/1.4. It's turned out to be a gorgeous lens.
I suppose if I had to pick one and say it's my fave, it would probably be the A*85/1.4. It's just a really sweet lens (though it isn't small).

Absolutely. That lens really has become my goto anytime I am wanting to do macro.
I find the bokeh to be somewhat funky if it is used outside of the macro range, do you find this as well?

Rice High is a nut. When he posted a thread where he said that he was conflicted on which to buy -- an olive green Km or a K7, I thought he had to be joking, but apparently he was serious. Haven't seen much in the way of photos from him, but then again, a lot of folks who post here don't post many photos...

And generally it tends to be the ones arguing over brands...

For you folks who wonder about buying Pentax w/o using Pentax glass:

I guess this isn't the popular perspective on this site, but I'm on a tight budget. A little less than 2 years ago, I bought a new K100D w/kit lens for $380 shipped. A few months ago, I bought the K2000D w/18-55 & 50-200 for ~ $500.

The build quality of the K100D was better than the Nikon D40, and worlds better than the Canon Rebel. Plus, I get to have IS/SR w/o having to purchase specific lenses.

So, IMHO, the value proposition of Pentax outclasses the competition, particularly if you do not suffer from LBA.
