You all make good points, and I think that we confirm the tests that several of us did here that show the more objectionable (chroma) noise is much better on the K-7. I don't agree that luminance noise is worse. I just don't think it is significantly better.

But now instead of comparing with the k20d (which I have said is excellent at high ISO) compare with other cameras like the 50D. Take a look at the watch and hand on the 50d. The image has so much NR, that you lose all detail in the watch, her hand, and the cuff of the jacket. Same think with the D90 that people think is so great at high iso (because it oversmooths!)

I just don't understand the continuing disappointment by Pentax enthusiasts about the noise. Is it because you were expecting better than FF performance? Heck, look at the 5d mkII results. Are they really that much better than the K-7? How about the Sony A900? Look at the watch on her wrist with the D700. Is it worth over 2x the cost of the K-7? How about the $8000 D3x? I can't read the back of the book in the d3x image, but I can in the K-7. To me they are very close. My point again is why the gnashing of teeth about the k-7 noise? The difference between noise on the K-7 and the FF cameras, is less than the difference in noise between the K-7 and a 4/3 sensor camera like the Oly E-30.

My conclusion is still that the K-7 has excellent high iso performance, especially considering the price.

Not to mention low ISO performance! It competes with 24mp FF cameras! I don't believe you can see the difference in even large prints. What the K-7 deserves are truly great lenses; I'm gonna sell the DA* 16-50/2.8 and replace it with the DA 15 Limited, the 21 Limited and the new WR kit zoom (I already have the 31 Limited and the 43Limited)

If I were undecided about Pentax and and have second thoughts and would likely tend to leave it for another brand then I might really look at the comparometer.
For me, any Pentax now is proven as considering the lens available to me only, has already sold me on this brand before.
That is why I chose it and that is why I am sticking to it.
Even Daguerre would have made great images with his first camera knowing it's limitations and strengths.
Nontheless..way to go Pentax for all the improvements!

Excellent point. The resolution of the k20d has allowed me to "crop to zoom" on many occasions.
