I drove a first gen WRX with suspension and tires (stock engine) at Buttonwillow once, it was setup for neutral/oversteer and it was good fun. That same day, I beat the crap out of my other friend's STI which was completely stock - quick, efficent, but it would understeer you into Mexico short of pulling the handbrake in corners. Which is not the right way to drive.
That's why I don't understand people who say STI's and EVO's are drifter cars. They read too many magazines. They're both nose heavy plowers from the factory.
I have tracked the TT, but it's not that much fun. It's a highly efficient machine but the 993's are a much more satisfying experience. I usually track my EVO, which is fairly entertaining and cheap enough to not worry if I end up going off.
I agree though - too much power on the street can be trouble. And most attention is the wrong kind.
So how about that Petnax...
Originally posted by nostatic I don't like attention on the street - it leads to bad things. On the track I didn't have to worry about an F or L car as they would rarely be there. The TTs were beasts that my screaming 172hp was no match for...well, except in the corners if the TT driver was a noob.
A flat 6 is a home on the track. On the street it is somewhat depressing. Even my current WRX is overkill, though I'll track it when it cools down just for grins. I'm curious to compare lap times between a track prepped SC and a bone stock WRX.
Oh wait, we were talking cameras...
