K7 Identifying lenses

Has anyone else had a problem with their camera recognising and naming lenses in the exif data?
I use Lightroom 2.4 and when I use the Sigma 105mm Macro it just says Sigma lens, when I use the Sigma 10-20mm it says Sigma or Tamron lens.
The same problem occured using pentax camera utility 4 so I presume its camera related.
Its not a massive problem its just annoying trying to search for photos according to lens, does anyone know of a workaround?
Tim

Not just the K7...

My K10D says my Pentax 18-250mm is a Tamron 70-300mm.

You will have to use a search on this forum. There are long threads about the issue which is not related to a particular body.

Point is that the lens is stored with a so-called "lens id" in the exif data and the table of names mapping lens ids to names within LR is neither complete nor are lens ids unique. Several workarounds exist.

Sigma (and, likely, Tamron) are "backward engineering" their products, so they adapt to Pentax cameras. In doing so, they use a generic electronic chip to id the lens, and quite a few lenses use the same basic info.
