Pentax..where to NEXT??

Been watching the Pentax DSLR models being discontinued at high speed over the last couple of months. Is it correct that the only model in current production is the K7.? The other DSLR manufacturers surely have more than a choice of ONE?????
Can anyone see any sense in this because I"m sure I can"t.......we live in hope. Perhaps they will surprise us all by releasing another four models Dave and his K20d.

I doubt there will be another four models, there was just time when models from two or even three generations overlapped.
Bascially you should expect new low end model, maybe somewhere in January.

There are currently 2 pentax dslr : the K-m and the K-7. And they'll probably release a K200D replacement to fill the gap between K-m and K-7 before the end of the year. Voilà.
... but it's also true that Nikon is about to have 7 to 9 dslr in current production before the the end the year.

Yeah, Canon for some reason has 4 Rebels in the current lineup. No idea why.

Xs at $599
Xti at $699
Xsi at $749
T1i at $899
(all MSRP)

I could see having the Xs and T1i maybe since the latter is a little costly for entry level, but FOUR?

I don't see any reason why there "ought" to be anything between the K-m and K-7. I simply hate hate hate the mainstream (read: Canikon) approach of "create perceptual gaps in the lineup and fill it", resulting in four, five, six current DSLRs to choose from. Enough!

That's one reason why I like Apple's product lineups; streamlined, elegant, and easy to understand.

If Pentax are to release a third pillar in their DSLR lineup, it shouldn't be something between the K-m and K-7, but something above the K-7 (i.e., FF, which I doubt will happen), or something radically different; say, something like Samsung's new NX system.

Are we talking about the same Apple that has 4 different iPods to choose from, in various memory configurations? (And at times have been selling more than one "generation" of each model on top of that...)

I really hope they make the modern, digital equivalent of the k1000. And no, the k2000/k-m is not what I'm talking about. Think of a dslr that is even simpler. One that is designed to work properly with mf lenses. It could be the camera that every photography department at every school in the country buys. You know, just like the k1000 was. The timing would be perfect considering the film labs are going the way of the dodo. This would generate a lot of business for Pentax. They would also get the respect of an entire generation of new photographers. Of course for this to work Pentax would need to actually want to sell high quantities of cameras, instead of tinkering with nowhere projects like the 645d.

It is truly sad that Pentax will watch another opportunity go to the competition and smile and wave as it passes.

They need to plow on to get the 645D done, then they're set.

And time warp functions. Where you set "70's" and it automatically adds bell bottom pants, sideburns, and VW bugs to the pics.

Don't forget the sharks.

And while you're at it, make it an Old Kentucky Shark.

No doubt it'll sell like hotcakes to all the people busy bitching about $2k being too much for a FF body.
