naming of files hiccup?

if you have IMGP0001 and rename it to 0908IMGP0001 the camera would start shooting using IMGP0002 correct? well ya of course, because that's the way it always does for me :P but today i noticed, it started with IMGP0001, and when i rename to have year and month in front, it comes up 0908IMPG0001 (1)

is there any reason it would do this? never happened before :/

Don't know if this is your problem, but here goes... This is how the renaming function in Windows works. In Windows it's possible to select more than one file and rename the first in the selection. For instance:

IMGP0001
IMGP0002
IMGP0003
IMGP0004

In Windows explorer, you can select all four and edit the name of the first file, for instance in 0908IMGP0001. The set of files now will get the following names:

0908IMGP0001
0908IMGP0001 (2)
0908IMGP0001 (3)
0908IMGP0001 (4)

i was using bridge. and i used batch to add the year and month. it seems like the camera named my files which were already used. is that even possible? i didn't do anything different in bridge from every other time so i'm not even sure how i could have done it myself.
