You can't have too many.

Umm, unless I am missing something, if you don't press the flash button to raise the flash up, the flash will stay off. Sure, the camera will blink that little flash icon at you in the viewfinder when it thinks it needs flash, but that's all it does.
I suspect in one of them fancy "scene" modes it might pop the flash up automatically; perhaps that's what was being referred to?

This is the way it is in K100D, so I'm sure Pentax wouldn't go backwards on the K-m

Yes, in "Auto pict" and in some of the "fancy scene" modes it pops up the flash automatically if needed. In P, Sv, Tv, Av and M modes it only pops up if you press the "flash up" button.

Definitely take some photos and see if you like it. If it works for you, it looks like a great package, particularly if paired with one of the pancakes.

ill echo this. I own a k-m myself and it is a tiny but powerful package. smaller than even my istD which means its smaller than the k-7. it may be geared towards beginners, but it offers everything that the K100 series offers only with a higher resolution sensor and faster AF.

You are all correct guys!

in auto mode it keeps popping up indoors!
NOT in other modes!

I was being lazy and had it in auto mode to shoot an object!
in other modes it will not pop up!

except I have notice that in Tv mode it keeps popping up at the night club I shoot in!
So I have taped it closed and will never open unless I remove the tape!

but in the club I am now permitted to use a flash!
so use a wireless flash!

"So I have taped it closed and will never open unless I remove the tap"

That is REALLY bad for your flash. In TV and Auto modes the flash will pop up in order to make sure you get a better exposure. You can ALWAYS go into your menu and turn the flash off. Never tape it though, because it will ruin the flash.

set the onboard flash to 'flash on'. it shouldn't pop up unless you press the flash button.

'flash on' is the K-m's equivalent of 'manual'.
