K7 AF assist light faulty?

I just tried autofocussing my new K7 in a dark room to test the AF assist light - which doesn't come on (and the camera focus hunts back and forth aimlessly). Unless I'm missing something I'm guessing something is wrong.

My old Z1 and SFXn both used to project a barcode-style red light on the subject and use that to focus. The K7 light doesn't seem to do anything.

Any help/advice appreciated!

Check item 32 in the Custom menu - did you turn OFF the AF assist light ?
Default is ON, but you never know...

Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked and it was on.

Is this light visible if it is working?

Edit: Never mind! I just realised the camera AF was set to 'continuous' (AF-C) instead of single (AF-S) and apparently the AF assist light only works in 'single' mode! Whew!

Only when you are not looking.

Me think either the camera is defective, or the ambient light is too strong to toggle the assist light.

Is it in AF-C mode or AF-S? I don't think it works in AF-C.

Yes that's right. Makes sense I guess.

Caught me out too, this one, and yes, does make sense, if you think about it.
