I'm in

As much as I'd love to have K20D I just can't afford one, but....
Now we're on holiday with my wife and I expected some pics to be taken. So at the airport I went to get some batteries for my wife's K100D. Ended up with CRV3 lithiums. Now as I walked to the counter I noticed camera with a good price on it. Sure, it was GX20. Turns out they had one more new in the box left, next to demo.
Price: £289 with kit lens and all...
So now we have:
K100D, K10D and GX20
How could I say no

BR
Peter

PS: when I tested my DA*50-135 the SDM wouldn't work, any ideas why???

Yes! Congrats Pete.
Great price.
Better than the *ist D, only it's not a Pentax
Sorry can't help you with the SDM issue - AFAIK it should work...

I remember a few months back when I wanted to upgrade my GX-10 to the GX-20, the price here in the US was like 1200.00. Body only. I bought the K20D instead for 614.00. Now they lower the price

You have to upgrade the firmware at the Samsung website.

turned out that camera was faulty, SDM should work even without firmware upgrade. Luckily I was able to exchange the bodies so now I have fully working GX-20

I have only started to convert pics from our Egypt honeymoon. So far so good. But from first batch it seem that GX20 tends to err on the magenta side of the AWB at least copmpared to K10D. But that was with Sigma 10-20, it may be the lens too. I'll see later because for most of the time my wife had FA31ltd on GX20. I'll see what will come out of that combo. I'll keep you posted.

AXL, I bet you'll love the GX20 once you get used to its flexible "tweakability". I've owned the K100 and I owned the K10d, K-7, and the GX20 all at the same time. I sold both the K-7 and the K10d and kept the GX-20. It is the most solid, predictable, and consistent performer I've ever used.

For the magenta bias, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the lens. The sensor in the 20 will usually faithfully render what it sees through the lens. If that is not the case, check your color settings. It could be the red is cranked up a bit or one of the other colors is adjusted down. Happy shooting.

sorry to ask maybe a silly question, but:
I assume that by colour settings you mean the picture wizard, right?
I'm shooting RAW (DNG) and I assume these settings have no effect on the result, correct?

Yes, I was referring to the wizard. If you're in raw, doesn't apply. The wizard works through the in-camera processor. Sorry I'm a lazy J-peg'r and tend to set the pictures in-camera the way I want them with only occasional tweak. If you're in raw, you're likely processing 100% anyways. Have you decided the camera has a magenta bias or is the lens influencing it? Cheers, bj

after reviewing shots it seems that it has some magenta bias. But I think it's going to be just a little tweak in LR's camera calibration, and I'll be OK.
