I really gotta stop subscribing to all these Pentax forums & email lists. The LBA (or in this BBA) is going to kill me.

Realistically, I don't see myself buying a K10D for a while. The DA14/2.8 (or 12-24/4) and a 135/2.8 is on the shopping list before this. Plus the fact it takes quite a while to get the funds accumulated for it.

Yes you need to put everything into perspective, and Yes I can understand that LBA comes first. I also know the crunch in funds. I would love to get the K10 the day it hits the stores here, but I also realize that it takes a while to get the extra together and not take away from what is needed for family.

Well, I just got back from the local shop. I got to play with a K100 and they had a K110. I am sold on the K10 if it is better then the K100. The screen looked giant compared to my DS screen. The SR very, very cool, just felt nice to hold and click away at low shutter speeds and all looked clear. I asked if they thought they would get the K10 and was told yea we should. Not sure I believe him but they did as I said had the K100, K110 and a DS for $599. Looks like they are my new lab of choice for printing to. Look out bank account.

I'm waiting

I've only just started with digital photography, and bought a "entry-level" body to test the waters.

I bought a DS in August when the K100D was driving down prices (picked up the body for ~Y40,000). Knowing that the K10D was coming out (I got a rough outline on it from the sales folks at Pentax Canada in July) and that there was a viable upgrade route, I decided to invest in two years with the DS, then step up. So, when I've put this camera through its paces, I'll definitely buy a K10D -- or perhaps a variant without the anti-shake, should one be released.

For once I have the money to spend, but I'd sooner put it towards a LX body to replace my dying MX, and a 77mm ltd lens (to share with my LX).

Other people can experience the bugs with the K10D, and Pentax can refine what seems to be a real winner.

Seriously, good luck finishing your thesis! What are you studying?
Wow, you don't mess around, do you?

I'm a little slower - got the DL on 28 March and I'm somewhere around 3500 shots. No funds for LBA helps, too!

I'm slogging through a PhD in biology - this is year 4, and there's actually light at the end of the tunnel. Of course it could be an approaching train... Half the time I think I must be mad, the other half I feel pretty lucky. Today was a lucky day - an easy day of field work in perfect weather. My field sites are a bunch of pretty little streams with gorgeous views of the Bay of Fundy. One of these days I'm going to get up there with the DL - when I'm doing work I only dare to carry my Oly Stylus.

Enjoy your K10 (whenever it finally turns up). I'm looking forward to hearing all about it from all you impulsive folks who are getting them right away!

I'll need to wait

I will have to wait for a while before purchasing. I'm still trying to decide between the Nikon D50, D80 or the Pentax K100D or K10D. I keep going back and forth mostly because of lenses. I like the fact that the Pentax cameras have shake reduction and theefore less cost in lenses. Nikons are just flat out nice but their VR lenses cost a pretty penny and are harder to get.

This will be my first DSLR so I'm still researching.

IMHO pentax has the best selection of lenses of all manufacturers- they're significantly smaller and lighter as well.

The K10D has some very, very nice features, so it'll probably beat all other DSLR's in its class in reviews

The k10d looks like it will be a winner, but I decided not to wait for it and ordered a k100d yesterday. If the k10d lives up to its specs, I will probably get one maybe 6 months or so after it is released.

Hi Julie.
Well, I'm in the same situation (also 4th year PhD in biology), and I know what you're saying . Hopefully, there is really a light at the end of the tunnel.

And how much of your supposedly productive working time do you spend visiting forums like this, surreptitiously editing photos, or staring at something wishing you had your camera?

I end up being at school long hours because I take advantage of high speed internet to look at photos and visit forums, and need to make up some of that time. Resolutions to catch up on weekends usually get destroyed by it being "too nice a day not to go out with the camera". I justify it by saying it's keeping me sane!

IMHO while Nikon D80 is a very, very nice camera, which easily outperforms K100D and probably IQ and performance wise is on the same level as K10D will be, Nikon D50 simply is outdated camera not really worth a look. No DOF preview, no mirror lock-up, small dark viewfinder... K100D is definately superior.

Saw one on September 15th. Played with it, ordered and paid for one. Expected delivery in late October - early November. Difficult to wait. Also purchased a DA70, expected delivery late October.

Four or five weeks more weeks to wait...

Still, for the money and the Nikon name (accessories, lenses etc) the D50 is a nice little camera for a beginner on a budget. I do agree that the K100D is the better camera. For few dollars more though the K10D looks awfully nice...
