K7 price drops in Oz

K7 available from DWI (online) for $1,480 AUD ($1,240 US). K20 drops to $865 AUD. Not sure if this the cheapest price at the moment but seems to be a bit below what I have seen so far.

K7 prices are edging downwards, incrementally, as stock trickles into the channel.

But why buy a K7 from from DWI (Hong Kong) for $1480 (with no local manufacturers warrantly support + probably $50 shipping) when you can buy a K7 online from (for example) Digital Fun Stuff for $1495 or Ryda for $1499 (both Sydney based and selling with full local warranty etc)?

K20D prices locally though are still around the AUD $1100 mark, so the OS sites do have an advantage there.

Yeah I missed out on the Vanbar preorder (funding problems..) but just got my K7 from Ryda on Friday. $1499 is not too bad and was good service from Ryda. Once the stock arrived from CRK I got it the next morning.

That's right! Three cheers for vanbar. and i'm sure selling 30 K7s in one hit didn't hurt their pocket either.

BTW, what's with the local price of the K20d? and the K7 battery?

Hmm....tempting. I just checked. Vanbar is selling k-7 for A$1539.

I was talking to a friend the other day and he cautioned me that sometimes an online store will sell us a camera that was previously returned by another user (either because of defects or because of something else) but the point is that the camera "may" not be a new stock. Is this true in any way?

If they describe the item as new, they have an obligation to sell you a new item, not a used item or a return.

If they want to sell you a used or returned or 'shop soiled' item they should describe it as such so the consumer can make an informed buying decision. Trade practices.

I think a lot of those returns sometimes find their way back to the distributor for 'refurbishment' and/or then get resold into the auction houses, rather than being re-sold directly from the store.

why would such a shady practice apply to 'online' stores only?

sounds like your friend finds 'online' to be scary or something.

According to this friend of mine, he had an unplesant dealing with an online store which he claims sold him a "refurbished" product and when he found that out, the store refused to admit their fault and refused to exchange for a new unit. I suppose he can just lodge a consumer complain but he didn't. Anyway.....that's another story

Is it a good idea to pay $100 for the 4yr extended warranty? If the camera develops a problem in say 2 years time, most likely the K-7 model would have been discontinued by then?
